Fuel Gauge

Well, 3,600Km on the clock on the MY08 and I've had the first failure - haven't even been off the bitumen yet. Started the Disco the other day and the fuel gauge was reading empty, lo fuel light was on and the trip computer read distance to empty - zero. I knew there was about a quarter of a tank in it, but filled up just to be sure - no change. So I'm guessing the sender has packed up. Off for my first visit to the dealer for a warrantee claim - hope this isn't the first of many:(

Any one else had this problem?

My previous Alfa 147 had the same but it cured itself after 2 tanks of petrol and never came back Shocked Shocked Shocked

I guess it's not a serious problem.

Has it affected the "Range" i.e. distance to empty? use that in the meantime....

Martin,
The issue is a warranty item as you well know, in the meantime use the time honoured method of guestimation...use 600k as the max range you are likely to get, and fill the tank at 500k regardless. Just remeber to reset the trip meter at each fill.

Martin, I had a fuel gauge problem that appeared as a rapidly emptying tank (according to the gauge) whilst driving along the highway no matter what the tank's real level was.

The service division replaced the tank because the senders are inside the tank and I believe it is the preferred first option (apparently there are two senders that average the readings). The next option was (in my case) to see if the gauge itself was faulty but this involves major work behind the dash. Luckily, it didn't come to that as it was identified that a wire had been rubbed in the vicinity of the rear wheel arch. (Not seen by me but picked up at a service.) I still can't imagine why the wiring to the fuel gauge would loop back before going to the front of the vehicle, but that was how my intermittently failing gauge was rectified.

Hope this is of some help, but yours is definitely a warranty issue anyway.

The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)
