Fuse 31 in glove box keeps blowing when trailer plugged in
Hi all, MY2011 HSE D4 keeps blowing the ‘Trailer side lights’ fuse whenever any light board is plugged in, LED or incandescent bulbs. The car has a 13 pin socket fitted.
Trailer Indicators, fog and brake lights work on all combinations. No tail lights, number plate lights or front trailer running lights.
I have tried both my trailers, 1 LED and 1 incandescent, an LED trailer board from a friend, and an incandescent trailer board from a friend.
All these work on both friends vehicles, but all have the same issue on mine.
These were a combination of 13 pin plugs and 7 pin plugs going through an adaptor.
Has anyone come across a common issue with wiring or connections for the trailer side lights that could help me narrow things down a bit.
I believe all the lights worked about 4 years ago, but have not done any towing since then, and now this issue.
All help, fault finding tips, guidance and photos greatly appreciated.

Hi
I wonder if a wire has frayed causing a short, might be worth unplugging the tow loom and checking for any bad wires, also ensuring the pins arnt bad , bent or any corrosion over the years
Within the plug or loom itself
Hope that helps

Many thanks!
I can take the plug apart and check.
Any idea where the loom comes from/goes to please?
Cheers again👍

The towing loom comes out of the car behind the rear light on the passenger side on a UK car then runs along the back of the bumper.
The genuine LR looms are in two parts with the connectors just below the rear light on the outside.

and with the connections precariously close to the mounting and storing of the tow hitch, are you certain nothing has been damaged?

Ah, now then, I need to go and have a look.
The tow hook has been installed for the past 6 years, so not likely to be a recent damage, but I do have jump leads and other bits rattling around in there, so well worth a look👍
Thankmyou for the suggestion.
Cheers.
