Fuse box fire - Help what to do
Hi all,
Well it's got to be one of those days.
Went on holiday down to Somerset all around back to London then Luton and back then this happens
Do you think it's an easy job?
The wiring looks like it's gone and a fusebox a corner part.
It's in Lookers at this moment just waiting .

If that's the bonnet release catch then it's waaay too close to the CJB for comfort. Lookers will just want to replace any damaged part with brand new and with a wiring loom that could lead to extra work. Your best bet might be to employ an auto electrician.

my guessing is that the trailer feed shorted out, and the 30amp fuse F8 (top right 3rd in) did not blow or there was a bigger fuse (should be 30A) in there that caused the fuse and the connector to the fuse box to get hot.

If you use a dealer, it’s a write off in my opinion. The fuse box needs to be replaced but that has your gateway module/BCM in it which controls everything but the engine. A new one isn’t cheap, nor is the programming. The wiring would need to be repaired and I’m not sure if those connectors are a serviced part (I know pigtails are available). They may insist on a new body loom and engine loom which I expect to be a few grand.
As said, go to an auto electrician as they are more likely to repair what they can. As for the BCM, you can a second hand kit with ECU, BCM, Keys etc for a few hundred quid so may be a better option (but recorded VIN would be different).

Thanks for replies.
However never towed with it nor used the tow electrics.
So don't know what happened, when it went alight I had jet wash and put that on it to stop the fire.
Hope it's not a write off as it's a great car.
Would think about repairing my self.
Can't be that hard? Can it?
insurance claim ? you have at least "3rd party, FIRE, and theft"

I would suggest that is going to be far more expensive than you think. Not only that you dont know how far it has gone, what has caused it and if you replaced a load of bits and refitted battery it may well go again or in a few weeks time.
Personally would go through insurance and let them write it off, sorryMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange
