Fuse Box Removal to clear blocked sunroof drain pipe

Hi all,

I have the common problem of a wet footwell on the passenger side. The passenger side drain tube from the sunroof is blocked. I have passed a pipe down it which appears to be getting to the area of the fuse box and then no further. I have removed the wheel arch covers and found the end of a tube which I presume is the correct one although there is no valve - presumable replaced when the car went in for a wiring fault and it was caused by a blocked drain valve! Although having looked a second time it could have been the pipe from the battery for battery gas. IS the sunroof drain pipe hanging down freely on the passenger side? I now think the problem is a block in the pipe behind the fuse box. I have dropped the glove box but cant see how you lower the fuse box - is this the correct fuse box or is it the one under the bonnet?Any advice greatly appreciated. Anyone have any photographs?
Chris

Yes you are in the right area, however unless you are a trained gynecologist i wouldnt even attempt it. It will turn you in to a bad tempered gibbering wreck in less that 30 minutes Banging Head

Not hanging down from what I remember. Have you been through this thread? http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic22757.html?highlight=\%22blocked+sunroof+drain\%22

I have looked at the thread but it doesn't mention if the pipe hangs down and there is no picture. I will need to investigate further but hopefully will have a few more replies first!

If it's 'hanging down' could it be the same as I had on the drivers side ?? In my case, the pipe had become disconnected from the bend/knuckle that directs the water to the wheel arch so the sun roof drain was in effect just emptying itself onto the carpet Censored

And as 'packingstrips' states, it is mighty fiddley.

The pipe does not come out to the fuse box, I battled a whole Saturday to get the leak fixed. I had to take off the side panel in the end as the grommet from the end of the drain tude rotted away and then the water was just running back into the car.

Take the A pillar trimming off and then you can follow the drain pipe to where it goes.

Sunroof pipes

My front sunroof pipe has come loose from knuckle/connector on the drivers side.

I have had some of the internal panles off but cant see where it connects>

Does anyone know how to re-connect?

@The OP: I have small hands and a free weekend (sounds well dodgy Shocked ) and I'm only along the coast from you. If you fancy a hand (sic) then let me know. By the way I'm not offering much expertise on the D3 as I'm new to them but the missus says I'm good with my fingers. Already I've add a few connectors into R1 and R2 and I didn't actually find it that bad.

Did you pull the A Pillar trim off (pull off the airbag plate and there is a torx bit behind there) would probably advise disconnecting the battery too if you plan on moving anything in that area.

Hello guys and girl's..
I've got the water leaking problem on the front passenger side coming from sunroof pipes. I've been doing some research and am thinking of having a go at replacing the rubber end which I think will be the problem. To do this though I need to remove the fuse board behind glove box but I've read that after replacing the fuse board it creates alsorts of problems. I've read that you should switch off and leave for a while then disconnect the main battery ? I'd appreciate any info you have... looks an easy fix once that's out of the way.
Best regards Tony.

Its a fiddly and frankly horrible job to get the central junction box out, and worse getting it back in. I reckon the production line for the D3 started with the CJB and they built the vehicle around it. But it can be done and in reality it is the only way to fix the sunroof drain.

I didn't find it difficult once i read a few posts here about turning it sideways before removal, no issues with re-installing if you plug the harness connectors in correctly.

Push a curtain spring wire down the drain from the sunroof and look where it comes out at the bottom Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thank you for your replies.. did you have any issues once you plugged fuse board back in... fault codes and things not working ? I'm hearing some horror stories about it. Did you disconnect the battery ? I will try pushing a wire down the pipe first but I think if it was blocked it'd be leaking around head lining... its not.. water appears in the channel where wires run in front passenger foot well as soon as I put a drop of water onto sun roof. Typically I think it off the 4 tubes this looks the hardest to fix..I was going to change all 4 rubber elbows.

Disconnecting the battery is a must or you risk frying the CJB, no issues once re-installed.
Like i posted above, make sure the connectors are seated correctly and you wont have any problems.
