G4 (TDV6) owners
Been looking around at a possible change to a D3... but the Orange ones keep catching my eye
I have done a quick search on here but nothing seems to answer all the questions I have.
Obvious one, but just wondered what kind of mpg the TDV6 G4 gets... they are all autos aren't they? so are mid 20's possible, or does it drop much lower with all that kit/rack, etc on?
Noticed Wiggs has TV in his, and noticed one for sale (now sold) that listed having TV installed too... do they all have that or was it a dealer option at the time (I thought LR just spec'd the G4's to the hilt? so had everything).
There seem to be varying amounts of stickers on them even on the one year (08) models... does that signify anything, or just people ripping some of them off? ie full stickers was a reccie vehicle, others were to be press cars, etc (I know that the 09 challenge was cancelled).
I did look (and register) on the the G4owners forum too, but there seems to be a lot more traffic here, and probably most of the folk from there are here too so maybe better for getting answers quicker

MPG mid twenties, more with road tires
Tv is installed on mine as is rear locking diff
Stickers are hit and miss not sure why, mine has most of them.
More better than the previous 2 D3's i've owned.
Any more questions?

I know that the 08's were never a full challenge vehicle (as in abused) but is there anything that should be looked out for on the G4's compared to the "normal" D3s?

Check for damage underneath if possible inc approach and departure angles.
Check what "kit" it comes with, winch ropes etc and that it all works.
Rooflamps will have likely been disabled, usually a fuse and relay to re-install.
Ask your nice local dealer for the warranty build spec, that should list everything it was built with.
I believe most if not all also have the rear E-diff it'll be on the spec sheet as difficult to check unless you get it stuck.
Or you could just buy one unseen form James @ CHPR, i did

Fuel big difference from my last one ( D3 SE )
I used to get around 440 miles to a tank . First tank full in G4 ...302 miles
Took the MTR's off and got it up to 350 miles . Reset adaptive gearbox and now can get around 400 miles ( mororway driving ) . There seems to be a big difference in motorway and town driving ...300 odd town ..400 motorway.
Been keeping a record ( tank to tank ) and its averaging 21 . I am going to take the rack off for a week and see what difference it makes .
Stickers ..all the white red cross ones were supposed to be removed before LR sold them ..mine still has them all on though . I think its a lot to do with the individual if the stickers are there or not .
Tv ..i believe they all had them ....as with the rear locking diff.
Apart from the fuel economy its a fantastic car ...and i love it . Get loads of flash's from other LR owners
In the snow its been great ..and have helped a fewe people who are stuckG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Do you know if those stickers are available to buy elsewhere if they had been removed (I think it looks better with them left on )

Thought it was meant to be a diesel... that's similar mpg to my STi and I'll bet it is driven harder than I'd try driving a D3
Cheers though... prefer to know more about it before I went and got one and had convinced the wife that it was miles cheaper than the STi to run (sounds about the same... mine is £400 to tax too).

Theres a guy on the G4 forum that can get stickers ..so you should be ok to get replacements ...the full kit for an 06 model for example are £130 ..just to give you an idea ( they are also sold seperatly )
Yeh fuel is the only shat part ..i avaraged 26 in my last discovery ..in 3 years and 118,000 miles ...but that was a manual . Hopefully a remap will get a bit more out of it G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

The red cross/red crescent were supposed to be removed as part of the change in set up, post cancellation, and how LR are fulfilling their pledge to raise the money G4 would have raised - I am not sure of the details but I understand that they would have been removed after the challenge anyway. The other stickers is very dependent on whether they were actually fitted in the first place, but also some of the dealers removed them
Most of the cars should be in better nick than the ones used on the challenge in 06, as most of there use would have been by LRE in semi controlled conditions, but they would have seen far more off road use in 6 months at LRE than most D3's will see in a lifetime.
And if you are worried about fuel consumption, save £15k and buy a 55 V8 it buys a lot of fuel (but no TV fitted)Craig
