Hi, I found this useful. Thinking of doing the same thing. Wish I had a voltmeter fitted when my alternator went. Oil temp and Oil pressure is also what I want on gauges. Thumbs Up

thanks Latnutgub, there are a number of people all working on this issue right now and posting here or on Youtube - LRTime. The other thread on here is showing an interesting option to mount gauges right in the lower part of the main binnacle, so with 3D printers that might become a popular method.

The oil pressure sensor installation is problematic and hopefully what I'm cobbling together is going to provide an off-the-shelf fix.

I should have the VDO sensor some time around the 20th February.

What about fitting oil temp as well? Or swapping the clock out?

I always like the analogue oil temp gauge in my BMW Z4M. It’s surprising how long it takes the oil to reach normal operating temp. Obviously means you can make sure you don’t overwork a cold engine.

Re oil temp suggestion RobPenrose, yes that is a candidate for sure. But just solving the problems of where to mount the gauges and how to tap into the oil system has been the breakthrough for me. Beyond that I can start to think about what other possibilities are achievable.

Here in West Australia cold oil is not the concern, its cooking the oil that needs to be avoided. most people here use 5W-40 oil.

The clock on my 2006 D3 is a small digital display in the music system and I just dont like digital displays for certain things. Hence the preference for analogue in my line of sight.
