Whatever you do don't go over to Detailing World forum... You'll end up with tons of gear, an empty wallet and a car so spotless and shiny you'll spend every few days keeping it looking perfect.
However, if you have a dark car (especially as in my case with black) you will do worse than to get hold of a DI vessel, they make so much of a difference especially if you are in the south of the UK Thumbs Up How did I manage without one!

What is a DI vessel. Is it one of those things to go on the hose to stop water marks

Yes exactly that Thumbs Up

You can just rinse the car with it and no water spots or dribble marks down from the wing mirrors, rear side windows etc as the water escapes from cracks and crevasses.

You can pick up an 11.7ltr vessel with gel for about £70-80
