Yes, checked everything in the centre tunnel, all seems good, the loom just disappears into oblivion after that, the drawings I have show 3 connectors before the loom reaches Transmission Control module, but I can't find them or the module to check.
I can now get underneath but still cannot see anything wrong, in the selector mechanism is a small 12v solenoid that unlocks the rotary knob, I am thinking of putting 12v into it with a fuse to check it isn't the solenoid that has failed, if it has it will mean it needs a new full rotary selector as they are classed as a none serviceable item. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Never thought to look on Ebag for one, I am not sure that is the problem though, but it's got to be worth £35 to find out. Good spot
I have done a slight mod to get me back on the road, not up to my usual standard but I am mobile again. It can when others can't,

Excuse if you've tried it, but isn't there an interlock between the brakes and the gear selector i.e. you have to press the footbrake to select drive from park and vice versa. If the physical interlock wont come out you'll not be able to turn it. Alas I don't know how you'd test it.

This was a known fault with the first lot of XFs. Had mine lock up while it was on the road not very well, parked on bin day ! The original fix was a new circuit board but it was subsequently found that a resistor or diode was the cause and was a fairly easy fix for the JLR field guys. 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

It is the interlock that is the problem.
Not quite, if you select park while moving you will go through the windscreen, It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

True. Actually thinking about it, my nipper selected reverse whilst I was driving once. The box went to neutral and just flashed at reverse. The car wouldn't allow it, so I doubt it would allow park and it would probably flash 'P' and stay in neutral.
All irrelevant really as I've proved that I myself am speaking utter b@ll@cks.
I'll get my coat

I’ve accidentally gone into reverse at about 3mph with my D3
I am trying to get my head round the purpose of this interlock that seems to be giving owners a lot of problems, when is it actually used?
A gear selection cannot be made without your foot on the brake.
The knob returns to P and goes down when the engine is switched off.
Although the knob can be turned(I think) when it is retracted with engine off, it cannot be started unless in P or N.
It can be moved to N whilst in motion and back into drive whilst in motion(H>L transfer box changed), same as gear stick.
The only danger I can imagine is if the engine is left running unattended in P which is no different to doing that with a manual.
So what is it’s purpose?
Must be a Health and Safety issue! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi, what was the problem at the end. The complete Rotary Selector or a part of it had to be replaced or there was a problem somewhere else? A friend just got stuck somewhere exactly in the same situation - car in "D", cannot start now.

I have fixed one of these before with a rubber band. Found the instructions on the internet... Had to remove the controller, split it and then hold the lock out the way with a band. This was a temp fix to get the car in N and started but this was about 6 months ago now and the band is still there (not my car)

So a simple trip to the shop to get a few bits resulted in my rotary gear selector refusing to move from park.
Looks like a recovery and a new unit unless anyone has any other ideas
