Took it into the garage and they were very helpful. Bloke came out with me in car to listen for the noise and informs me that it is normal. the noise i was hearing was the clutch damper.
Well, now you know.

I hate to be a bit wet on this. But I have had noisy clutches and good ones. You should not hear anything like that unless you are the bionic man. Don't like that diagnosis at all.
Just how hard do you have to listen, because I am fanatical about noises (ask Mrs BN) because an early noise has often saved my life in the outback and extreme locations. I listen for them all the while and as sad as I am, I rarely play a radio as a result. The noise must be pretty loud to be heard by you and if it is a clutch noise, it ain't right.

You do have to listen for it very hard i have to say. I can't hear it with the radio on even at low volume. It doesn't happen when I accelerate gradually. Land Rover bloke said it was the damper working to stop vibration when changing gear and that it was only noticeable when i was putting pressure on it ie accelerating. he said he had worked for LR for 20 odd years and was used to such noises so i took his word for it.
he did say if it gets any louder, which it shouldn't, bring it back in.

chambresi, it is not right if you can hear the clutch operation or anything, sorry I disagree with the mechanic. You are at Rockingham next Tuesday I think and you are booked with Ray. I spoke to him this morning. Ask him to check out your clutch, because both Vince, he and myself all agree, no noise should be heard from the clutch, unless you are revving to the top of the rev range and keeping your foot on the gas and releasing the clutch at that point. Basically we mean abuse

I have my doubts. Obviously I have not had the priviledge of hearing the problem like the mechanic, but it just does not sound right.
Old Landy's often had a clutch noise, but then they were very basic, the D3 is not. No one I know has a clutch noise and assuming that you do not abuse the revs, it must be wrong. Ray will tell you I am sure.
