gear shift dash indicator, reverse lights, engine hunting |
|
Currently experiencing a quirky problem. Gear shift indicator on dash showing but only when in motion, not at stand still, and only after 5 secs or so of engaging gear. reverse lights not working, bulbs checked and are good, engine hunts from 250-1000rpm on halting at stop or lights, park brake light shows amber on dash (but this maybe a separate issue). engine on stop gives feeling of 'running-on', i..e stick the clutch in qucko to avoid ramming those in front.
any experience of this?
regards

I should have added that the gear shift ind & reverse are related.

Give this ago, as Discowex said. I think it'll sort it all out. My last car did some strange things whilst the gear indication didn't work
TFC wrote:Start in reverse then each forward gear, hold each gear with foot fully off the clutch until the gear indication shows the selected gear, this must all be done in one ignition cycle. Once complete turn ignition off and remove key until the radio clock & park brake indicator go off.
It helps to do it in low ratio, or you run out of room very quickly Disco 5 HSE Lux

Similar symptoms (ie gear indicator slow to indicate & amber park brake light) on mine turned out to be due to a faulty transfer case ecu (as with Discowex). Park brake operated normally.
Did not have the "hunting" though (but certainly could be related).
Local service "guy" said that it isn't uncommon for these to go.
An easy fix (& I hope that you are still under warranty).

I had a similar thing yesterday. Read the post of re- calibrating the sensor. Piece of cake, Thanks a lot guys. I don't know what I'd do without this forum.

Re: gear shift dash indicator, reverse lights, engine huntin |

Did you ever get to the bottom of your problem whereby your:
Park Brake yellow warning is one
The gear shift indicator is only showing in motion and even then delayed,
And the engine hunting from 250-1000rpm on halting at stop or lights?
I'm getting the same (no issues with lights though). However I noticed that the hunting only started when the Park Brake warning problem started and I only see the hunting of rev when I brake first then dip the clutch second as I approach the lights/junction. If I dip the clutch first and then brake straight after it doesn't happen. Weird.
I believe it is all linked with the XY sensor and ECU, but just wondered why? Can anyone offer an explanation?

Hello
Welcome to the forum LANDROVER boy!
Mine D3 hunts as well, it started with the XY sensor issue. It used to hunt a lot then but has sort of reduced after the calibration of the sensor. I've also had a couple of injector faults but they vanish after clearing the fault. I am thinking the main reason for the hunting is low quality of diesel. Maybe someone can enlighten more on this!

Hi guys sorry to put a downer on things had the same problem just after chriStmas done all the resetting lark worked fine for couple of days and then went again, done reset again and then went again this happened several times and then realised it was due to clutch slipping and very soon after clutch went on way back from blue water and was sat on motorway for hours which was then followed by a hefty bill for new clutch
Sorry

Hi everyone, I think I’m looking at a new clutch, but wanted to check on here in case it’s not quite that bad and maybe only an xy sensor....
Just this morning wife started having a bit of slip on the ice and this then set off the park brake fault etc. I’ve reset the xy sensor 2/3 times In the last couple of years-no big deal and always sorts out the fault. But tonight the EPB fault comes straight back on after I reset, and clutch slip has got progressively worse on a short 2/3 mile journey. I’ve never had any clutch slip issues before this at all (I only had to reset before due to my own fault riding the clutch slightly in certain situations).
Basically my question is-do we think this is the end of the line for the clutch? Or could it just be the sensor? 2007 disco with 130000 on clock. Don’t have any record whether clutch has been done before...
TIA
Adam

Hi Adam,
You experienced the same symptoms as I am now. Did you fix the problem?
Cheers
