Gearbox calibration after replacement
Please correct me if I'm barking up the wrong tree but just before I got my D3 a few months ago it had a gearbox replacement. I've seen suggestions on here that say the gearbox should be recalibrated, and my IIDBT has the setting, but do I need to do this and what's involved? It's a TDV6 HSE Auto.
I plan to upgrade the power (remap via IID) and brakes (v8 version) but I want to know that the drivetrain is in good order before proceeding.'

If it's changing smoothly I would leave it.
Doing a re cal will mean it will change rough, for 3 days until it relearns
In any case the ecu is in the gearbox, so was replaced together, (though the new oil can make minor changes)

Hi Pete, thanks for the reply.
I'd say it has the occasional lumpy change but nothing serious enough to warrant concern. I'm more bothered about what happens when I do the remap since the gearbox will be having to deal with higher torque, so I want it to be spot on beforehand.
Is the only effect that it will be lumpy for a few days? If so then I can live with that, what's actually involved other than telling IID to do the recal, I'd like to understand the process before I hit 'go'.'

It wipes all the Adaptive data the gearbox has learned over the past xx,xxx miles
Resetting will put the gearbox back to "as new/factory" with regards to this learned dataMy D3 Build Thread

so essentially I just tell IID to do the reset, put up with a lumpy change for a few days, and that's it?'

The “Don’t touch it if it isn’t broken” doctrine is very valid on firmware upgrades and thinking about resetting things.
(Your “new” gearbox probably isn’t “new-new” but reconditioned, right?)

reconditioned by somebody who knows what a landy is - I seriously doubt it
I went along with the previous owner to have the new box 'checked' a month after fitting. This involved the mechanic driving 200 yards up the road and back, then saying it was fine. As for the company who actually refurbed the box I have no idea.'

I have had some boxes, after resetting adaptions produce fault codes for slip on the clutches etc.
Which can be a real pain, as it goes into limp home.
After driving for a month or so, they usually adapt back in again.
It is obviously a fault in the box/worn, which the adaptions when relearnt can overcome.
... as said, if it ain’t broke... unless it’s annoying you on the change, don’t reset adaptions.
