Gearbox fault

Looking for some help people, I have a disco 4 on a 2010 plate, the car went into limp mode on a long trip (after about 100 mile) and stated on the dash that there was a gearbox fault.
the fault seams to only be happening on kick down. I took the car to a local gearbox specialist and he suggested the valve body assembly needed replacing, I had this work done but still had a problem, when I called the garage they said it might be the code needs clearing which they couldn't do it, i took the car to my local garage and they cleared the codes for me. the fault is still there, it was suggested that it could be a fuel filter or turbo hose so I asked my local garage to do a full service to including the suggested parts. When I went to pick the car up the garage said the only fault they could find was a leak on the gearbox.
I asked them to fix the leak which they did but had to have a new sump etc.
I have just driven the car for the first time since get it back from the various garages and the car has just gone into limp mode with a gearbox fault. Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Many Many thanks in advance Lee

Hi Lee,

We would need to know what fault codes are stored in order to offer you any meaningful advice.
I assume you do not have any diagnostic tools yourself, and if that is so can you have someone else do it for you?

There may be someone on here who can help, otherwise you will have to get them read and post the results back here.

PS. Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up

Don't waste your money taking your motor to 'local garages' unless they are Land Rover specialists who have experience of your model

Firstly as said get the codes read properly (don;t give the motor to someone who can't read the codes)

thereafter decide on a course of action, it can get very costly changing parts with your fingers crossed behind your back hoping the fault will disappear.

a trip to West 4x4 would be a good place to start. Not too far from Hayling Island.

Im afraid i don't know what that code means. How many miles has the D4 done?? Has it ever had a gearbox flush?

You could try a fluid flush and filter change and hope for the best, but I suspect it may be a much deeper problem.

Hi Rob
yes I think you are right, west 4x4 it is.
Ive had the valve bodies just done by Lingearboxes as they said that would clear the fault, the works included a full flush and oil and filter change, she has done 85k so not massive milage

Welcome Lee

I would avoid a main dealer unless you have a warranty which will pick up the tab. If you need an excellent indy West 4x4 are first class:-

Google tells me:-

This could indicate there’s a mechanical problem with the E clutch in your transmission if it is 6HP28; a common cause is wear in the rear stator bush which acts as a seal (resulting in a leak path) as well as a support for the shaft.

Let us know how you get on.

Edited to add I was far too slow - interrupted by SWMBO mid-post !

I'm not sure but I think the bush might be covered under a warranty or good will arrangement. The longer you drive without getting it fixed the more likely the clutch will get damaged.
