Gearbox flush

Hi me again.

Just had a quote to have gearbox flushed and new 2 part sump/filter put on.

Car has a small judder around 1750-2000 rpm under slight load, there’s no hunting (yet), I’m assuming this is the gearbox (135000m).

This is using genuine ZF fluid

The cost is in the region of £850

If this a fair price, what do you think ?

Is it worth using this fluid or is there a cheaper alternative that won’t cause any problems

Anywhere else in/near Kent do this a bit cheaper. Don’t mind driving to neighbouring counties or is there a mobile service in the area?

Not saying the garage is ripping me off but just want to know if it’s a fair price.

Thanks as always for any help

If your flushing it, it doesn't need a filter Thumbs Up

It's not wise to spend that much, when you may need a replacement gearbox next year.

As mike said, skip the filter change.
Use aftermarket fluid that is suitable for ZF6HP
(but not red oil)

If you like getting your hands dirty you can change the fluid yourself.

There is a place in Dartford who was highly regarded on the BMW forums for doing gearbox work and they use the ZF boxes. I spoke to him when I had my E61 and he quoted about £300 for flush, new filter and sump and refill.

Thanks all,

Got a quote from another garage and it’s now around £300 without filter like Disco_Mikey said.

Suppose I could do it myself I will look into that. Will it need a double flush ?

So does this mean its terminal for the box then or will this make improvements

Garage giving the new quote says could be fluid foaming and the flush will stop it (pretty sure it still original).

Contact Bodsey here on the forum. Had mine done and fixed the same faults your describing.

Price way less than your quoting.

I’ve sent a PM to Bodsy but had no reply the PM section of my profile say he hasn’t seen it, don’t want to bombard him with messages so, Bodsy if you see this PM me and we can talk about a flush

It may be I’ve done something wrong

Might be worth dropping a reply in this thread as well

He did mine last year, and again I’d say it was worth it.
