Gearbox reluctant to engage 6th gear when cold |
|
Morning
As described really - wondering if this is something anyone else has encountered or knows about.
Setting off from a cold start, the gearbox won't go into 6th gear on its own around 70mph. It revs in 5th gear instead at c. 2250rpm or something similar.
If I use command shift it will go up. Or, if I accelerate past 70 to 75 - 80mph, then ease off the throttle, it will also go in on its own.
I'm happy to view this as just a quirk of a 200k+ miles gearbox, but any other info appreciated
Chris

As mentioned, this is normal function but one thing to add. I have had my D3 for a year now and this functionality got much worse....seemed to hold onto 5th for a long while...c.10 miles even after things should be quite warm. I found it too much and really annoying.
Turned out that my oil temp sensor was faulty and was intermittently giving false readings (this also caused other temp gauge issues). After I replaced that sensor, the gearbox behaved much better....no doubt my engine fuelling was a lot healthier too!
Point being, if it gets worse or you feel this happens more than what should be the standard design then that might be a place to look - common fault apparently and was only about £20 and an easy fix.
