I think Englands Goalies conduct during the final was appalling.
Ignoring the fact she was well off her line when Spain took the penalty and it should have been retaken, then gobbling off afterwards with easily decipherable foul language is NOT an example or example to the legions of young ladies that idolise the women’s team. It was shameful.

It was just gamesmanship and emotion in a highly charged atmosphere. Nothing to fret about or over think.
Personally I think she had a blinding tournament, she won the Golden Glove and is an idol to many aspiring female goal keepers.D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

Highly charged or gamesmanship doesn’t excuse her appalling behaviour.
She didn’t display any positive attributes with that conduct that you’d like replicated in any young aspiring girl footballers.
I would feel the same for the men’s game.
You can’t have it both ways, you’re either someone young people look up to and emulate or your not.
Just my opinion.

Correction- Earps was not off her line. FIFA put the issue to bed 15 minutes later - or 30 minutes after the full-time whistle - when it confirmed the broadcast footage was an optical illusion.
The governing body shared a side-on view that proved the studs of Earps’s boot remained over the line. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

That’s the official FIFA view. Others aren’t so generous. Either way it was particularly close and having watched the slow mo, I’d say she was off the line personally.

Anyway, it’s all academic now.

When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line.
I agree that some angles of the kick seemed to show Earps was off her line when Hermoso took the shot. But I know how deceiving angles can be from watching live tennis.
“As with all penalties, the Video Assistant Referee checked Spain’s penalty for encroachment by the goalkeeper and determined that Mary Earps’ back foot was in line with the goal line,” FIFA said in a statement issued after the game.

What did seem to be the case was that the ball was placed in front of the penalty spot and not on it, which I thought it should have been?2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Yes there were remonstrations and the ball was re spotted.
If it’s like the goal keeper tailing foot, then the very last bit of the ball was touching the spot and the Ref checked it before allowing the penalty to proceed.
This kiss has set women's football back somewhat... nobody is talking about how good a game it was.
Don't think anyone saw this coming though...
