Glow Plug Light wont go out!

I'm getting mixed advice here. If I have a glow plug light that never goes out, is there any risk of engine damage? is this an urgent issue I should deal with pronto? the car starts and drives fine ! ...

Thanks for the welcome. I'm going to drive it to a LR service centre tomorrow to get some assurance or a fix, assume there is no reason not to drive it?

Sounds like you've been driving it with the light on anyway......the best plan would be to get someone to read the fault codes stored in the system, the you/they can then make a better judgement as to whether the car is fit to drive without possibly causing more lasting damage..... Thumbs Up

Maybe if you need to drive, you could unplug the glow plug connectors at top of engine under the cover.

Thanks guys, as it turned out the battery was dying. the glow plug light was an early indicator. Only when the battery was at deaths door the next day, did I get the battery low warning. Fitted new battery - hunky dory.

Thanks for this piece of info.
The warning light came on and stayed there on mine all day (didn't drive it far).
Read your advice and thought - what the hell - a new battery is clearly something to try first - if it does not sort it, then I will get it looked in to.
New battery on - light is gone! Very Happy

Go the constant glow plug light issue yesterday, all sorted now so to add my experience to this thread here goes...

Noticed slightly sluggish cranking at start recently on my 2013 LR4, then yesterday AM it started OK but the glow plug light came on and stayed on all day. Scanned with IID tool but no faults logged that seemed relevant at all, clearing faults anyway didn't make any difference at all, light still there even when ignition off. Decided to leave it over night and do some reading here...I'm thinking battery...

So this morning on starting it was VERY sluggish indeed and glow plug light gone and replaced with constant red battery warning light along with a few other misc faults (transmission fault normal program selected etc.). So checked alternator and it was putting out 14.7v measured at the battery when ticking over, so that seems fine. Battery was showing 12v with the ignition off so whipped it out and checked the manufacturing date (stamped on the bottom of battery), seems it was manufactured in 12/2012 so it's the original 7+ year old battery. Time to replace me thinks...

New battery fitted this this afternoon (original LR one from the local dealer), no faults or lights, all gone, cranks very eagerly (amazing how sluggish it had been for a while).

So I would say glow plug light staying on is defiantly a low voltage warning singling new battery time has arrived Thumbs Up

Update...

Forgot to mention that I reset the BMS after the new battery was fitted, the system seemed to discharge the battery by limiting the charge voltage for a while but after a couple of days running battery status now looks fine...

Happy days Very Happy
