i've converted many a family member and friend to mac from pc, just converting my 70 yr old FIL who has never used a computer before, found pc very frustrating, he's into week 2 now and loves it, downloads his photo's from his camera without having to install drivers, can go from his house to ours and not have to type in passwords and look for networks.
for everything that doesnt make sense on a pc, there is exactly the opposite on a mac that does make sense,
power is irrelevant as 99% of the population never get anywhere near the need for the amount of power available,
no one really mentioned the lack of virus's or pop-ups on mac either,,, they don;t date and will still be working in 5 years, my first mac lasted 7 years, sold it for 50% of what it cost me, dont reckon that's too shabby.
oh and by the way, CS3 is worth just as much as the computer.... so that's a 4k machine you got there....

Microsoft and PCs pay for my D3 ...but I'd have a Mac (if price was not an issue). PC hardware is cheaper and faster then Mac (economies of scale) but PC software is less efficient then Mac , so a lower spec Mac will often do just as good a job. You can virtualise a Windows OS onto it if you really feel the need. This is more the case if you use it for work and some of your work software uses Windows only. Personally, I run Windows 7 but you can't have that yet. It's much, much better then Vista and a fair improvement on XP. I'd skip Vista. I don't see the point in it. The I.T. Industry does not see the point in it and given that almost the entire Microsoft Marketing Machine is now behind Windows 7 it appears Microsoft don't know the point of it, either. Also, Windows 7 includes a virtualised Windows XP, NOT Vista, system for backward compatibility, so Microsoft Product Development obviously don't know the point in Vista.
Besides, I learnt on Mac OS and SGi , so I'm always going to favour that stuff over a PC!

Run out and buy a wireless mighty mouse quickly - you'll wonder how you managed with just a 'proper mouse'!!!

Quality always costs... The design and even build quality on the new macbook pro's is well worth it. Let the kiddies with all their viruses and clunky software play with the cheap stuff. I say make them more expensive!!! 2005 D3 HSE

I've got an aluminum 17" macbook pro, a black macbook and and imac. On top of this, our two 'works' windows laptops cause nothing but hassle in comparison. BUT you do pay a premium. (No burglers reading this, right?)
If you like fiddling and tweaking, stick with windows. You can be a real fountain of knowledge with your mates when it comes to windows. But if you want things to 'just work' (and very nicely) get macs. But you do pay for the privilege!
They are a real pleasure to use though. Everything works together really well. But like I said, you use the apple apps, pay for what you need and don't cut corners.

BTW is it true you don't need AV software on a Mac?
Depends - if you use it as a Mac only, don't bother. If you're planning to use it occasionally as a Windows device on the internet, then it might be best to use an AV program - plenty of good free ones about; Malwarebytes' Anti-malware is an example.
Having said that, as yours appears to be a company device, I would have thought it'll be connected to a mixed Windows/Mac network and thus you'd be asked to install whatever corporate AV you have to run when booted as a Windows device.
FWIW, I've never seen any Mac viruses in 25 years of using them; there are a couple of Trojans that have been reported, either hidden as porn video codecs or in 'cracked' Adobe applications from torrent sites. Both require the user to enter the administrator password before they can work and are thus easily stopped. There have been cases of Macs acting as 'carriers' - an email containing a virus or other malware can be ineffective on a mac, but still active when forwarded to a PC. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Well, I used to think that a virus was a malicious piece of code that infected a (predominantly Windows) computer to wreak havoc on the system, but seeing as all of the virus reports I get come from customers, and a select few customers at that, I have had to update my view to: "Viruses are customers with nothing better to do then surf websites" I'm not sure if that is an internationally recognised definition but it is mine

Here's an interesting little test you can do - go to www.miscrosoft.com, and type the word VIRUS into their website search window..
384,000 results!
same search on Apple.com
207 results..
