Here's an interesting little test you can do - go to www.miscrosoft.com, and type the word VIRUS into their website search window..
Who are miscrosoft?
Vista is Khazakstanhi for "utterly pants bloatware that will take your hi-spec laptop and make it run like a brick through custard". Netsvcs that eat all your memory at an ever greater rate? That will be the Vista I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I have a MacBook Pro - 18 months old, which refuses to boot.

I take it you didn't take out Apple Care? Rapid Group are based in Fleet, Solutions have a store in Chichester and there is a company called Macwiz who do over the phone trouble shooting. I've never used any of these (except buying stuff from Solutions ) but they all advertise regularly in Macformat. HTHDS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Mac's are definately the donkey's in comparison to PC's.
I use Parallels to run my few remaining PC apps in XP (don't bother with Vista and upgrade to W7 when available), it comes with Kaspersky AV and Anti-spam already installed for Windows, haven't got any AV or anti-spam on my Mac and in 6 months have had no probs.
A couple of major differences I've found coming from PC's:
1. Macs can be put to sleep and woken many many times for weeks on end with very few problems, I've never known a PC to reliably be put to sleep more than a couple of times. All the PC machines I have fall over and need rebooting within a couple of weeks anyway.
2. The apps appear to be more stable, there have been a couple of times when the machine has frozen and this has been mainly attributable to Parallels running - guess what....windoze
Parallels have updated v4 and it is really stable now. If I could get rid of all my PC's and replace with Macs, I would.

Macs , they went out in the 80's FFS , especially the ones with the waist belts.I prefer something with a hood and a pocket for my notebook , binoculars & pencil
but to be brief they just work......
Bloody awesome...
.....speed of Safari 4.0 is incredible
I use VM Fusion rather than Parallels (have both) but VM is sat there one button click & 1 second later WINDOWS.....YukBREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
Thank-you everyone - posted from my MacBook Pro now working again.
