I've got a 2012 D4 XS like the poster above. Came with FBH but not remote and not enabled.
I went enabled the three options with my GAP tool, FBH remote, timed climate and another one (can't remember) and bought the LR genuine fob.
If I recall, there's a file in the Wiki that's helpful. It was dead easy to do and one of my first mods. It's a game changer. I get up and press the fob about 15 mins before leaving the house and it's taken the chill off when I get in the vehicle. In the summer, it vents air from outside, into the cab to remove the really hot trapped air. Doesn't do air con, but helps remove that stiffling hot air.
I also fitted rear heated seats to keep the kids happy too.

Just searched my old threads.
The kit I bought was LR part number: VPLAX0060
That's for everything you need to enable remote FBH off a genuine LR fob includes the fitting guide too. Just need IID to enable it then.

Thanks james79! That sounds like exactly what I want. My only niggling doubt is that the unit may not have been run for years, and that expecting it to burst into life might be a bit optimistic. No doubt if I search I'll find a way to fire it up as a test - I'll plug my Topdon thing in and see what I can find.

The FBH will run automatically if the outside temp is less than 6 degrees, the fuel reserve light is not on, and the coolant temp is less than 75 degrees, so I would expect your FBH has probably run quite a few times each year if the car was being used relatively regularly by previous owners. It's a pretty reliable little power house so even if it hadn't run for a while I think it's likely that it would still fire up without a problem.

If it's as chilly outside in Harrogate as it is in Tamworth, you'll probably be able to hear it this morning when you start the motor up. Sounds a bit like a jet engine starting up. And I think mine runs or winds down when I turn the engine off too. Probably over runs to burn up fuel. I'm sure someone will be able to clarify.
You could always see if it's hot after a short time after starting the motor. That'll tell you if it does actually run.
You'll be so pleased you've got it, when you can look out the window on a cold morning and see your car is defrosted whilst the neighbours are scraping theirs.

Curious as I always thought D4 had heated washer jets but of course not sure if it’s standard on all models
Retrofitted them to my D3 and work a treat to also prevent the washer jets from freezing
Suppose the easy way to tell is to lift the bonnet and see if there are wires attached to the washer jets

No heated washer jets on my D4 XS.
There was a chap on the Nissan Navara forum that retrofitted some to his pick up. Seemed easy enough to do. Mine have always thawed out pretty quickly once the engine is up to temperature, so never really seen the need for them, but agree they are a nice luxury item to have.
I'll add it to the list of mods I'd like to do.

My petrol D4 has always been very slow to heat inside, whereas my petrol D3s were all excellent in this regard. With the D4 I've found it HELPS to over-ride the "Auto" setting on the aircon controls and to force the fan speed to a high setting for the first 5 mins after a cold start - this definitely shortens the delay between engine start and the first signs of warm air internally.
Guess I need to investigate whether perhaps I have a clogged matrix, obstructed heater coolant flow or faulty coolant thermostat - however the engine temperature rise behaves normally, and the inside of the car eventually feels and remains good once it has settled down.

What OBD scanner are you using and what spec is the car?
Mine is an XS but I've activated timed climate using a GAP tool. It's set so it defrost itself before I leave for work and when leaving work to come home the FBH fires when the engine is started and it's up to temp very quickly.
Is a stuck thermostat or maybe even some air in the cooling system a possibility?

Don’t recognise the scanner you have but on GAP there is an option to prime the auxiliary heater, after which you can run a self-test on it. Just remember a) turn off the interior fan first or the self test won’t run, and b) be prepared to reassure passers by that your car isn’t on fire, as after a prime the self test will produce a LOT of exhaust smoke! I run both routines on my car at the start of every winter just to make sure it’s ready when I need it

My scanner is a TOPDON but I don't find it much use for the D4. I was determined to avoid unneccesary expense on my new toy (In case I needed the funds in a hurry for disasters)! but I must say the GAP tool is tempting. I think maybe after St Nick has been I may give in ....
Spent a few hours yesterday installing an Android board to the head unit. Bit fiddly but worth it - I'll post a bit more tomorrow with photos.

I've got a GAP which is as fantastic as everyone says it is. I've also just got myself an Autel MP808S-TS as I'm buying a project car which I'll definitely need it on, not sure I needed such a high model in hindsight but it comes two years of updates so sold it to myself.
The Autel seems to read the same codes and has a number of functions but doesn't give you the ability to activate extras on land rovers as far as I can tell. Once I've done my final upgrade of fitting some new headlights I don't think I'll need to keep both but undecided at the moment.

Thoughts after 2 weeks of ownership
So some clarifications.
Work and a weekend away kept me away from my new (OK - new to me) D4 but I've had a little time to use it now. First thoughts and some clarifications:
I DO have heated washer jets. Haven't had any mornings cold enough to freeze since the one morning they were frozen - but I'm putting that down to the supplying dealer maybe using plain water. Now it's screenwash.
I had a short notice panic run to and from a client 150 miles away. I've had some nice BMWs and Mercedes in the past but this is the best motorway cruiser I've ever had. 30mpg.
No timed heating option on my car. I understand I'll need the GAP tool to turn this on. More about that later.
My heated front screen continues to do nowt. (Consult Yorkshire/English phrase book). Fuses are fine and switch illuminates. I thought I'd cracked it when I realised that there was no 'click' from the solenoid when I pushed the switch so I changed the relay - but it wasn't that. There's power to the terminals within the 'A' pillar cover so I reckon maybe it's a duff screen. Does anyone have experience of changing the screen on their insurance? Does the screen actually have to be broken? I'd like it to work but I'm not prepared to defraud the insurance company!
I've fitted the 'Mr 12 volt' board to give Apple Carplay and Android Auto. £300 quid and worth every penny. Works fab. Plenty of install videos so I won't bore you with my experiences other than to say the hardest part was re-fitting the screen unit with all the addition wiring behind it. Fiddly but worthwhile.
I've bought a generic reversing camera. Not fitted yet. I reckon I can feed the Android box with it OR get an adapter cable and feed the head unit direct. The latter means I'll get the moving lines on the screen but will once again mean buying a GAP thingy to turn the system on.
So - GAP tool. I am a self-confessed toy lover and the idea really appeals. But it's so expensive! At the moment I am repressing my need to buy! That amount of cash could go towards my next D4!
Best thing of all - my wife loves the D4. It's the elevated seating position that does it. It's even replaced our electric Peugeot 2008 as our first choice car for social use!
