Grabber AT3 review

Anyone seen this - appreciate summer vs AT tyres is like comparing apples and pears, but some interesting results.

I was going to buy some but in the grand scheme of things they look absolutely terrible Confused

Would be interesting how other winter-AT tyres compare under the same conditions

Well reading that I should bin my at3’s but the reality is I’ve driven in sun rain heavy snow etc with no problem whatsoever so I’ll disregard it as a load of rubbish! Luckily I’ve fitted Michelin CrossClimate on swmbo’s focus so at least that will keep on the road! Laughing

Yes same here, happy with mine in all conditions so far.

I think they must be a soft compound though as they leave tread marks all over my driveway

I saw that recently. One thing they don't show is off road ability - obviously because most SUVs never go off road. The AT3 has been very good off road so far. I'm not sure I'd want to take CrossClimates off road for example (we have the car version on the Octavia and they are good road tyres).

A good test would be AT3 / Scorpion AT+ / Wrangler All-terrain Adventure / Duratrac as they are all off-road type tyres.

Only my opinion but what a load of $hit.
I've not had any problems with mine in the last 2 years, so have gone through a wet summer, the beast from the east = plenty snow and the hottest summer on record.

Work out from that whatever you want.
I'd have no problem buying them again Thumbs Up

Auto Bild tyre tests are great.
In the text it makes clear the reason for including two AT tyres in this test and points out the poor wet braking distances relative to the other road tyres. It’s no great surprise, there’s less tread in contact with the road surface on a “chunky” tread AT tyre.

Yeah, my current set (my first) has been to Spain for some light off roading, has done many miles on A, B and m-ways in the UK, went well in the snow and rain, done a bit of mud too. Doesn't brake like a sports tyre but then, well, it isn't one.

Just to add, i have been running mine for over 6 months now and have found them to be very good in all senarios. Wish there were other independent tests to compare against.

Ok the test shows poor high speed cornering, as the same all of you its on a 3 tonne disco not a hot hatch.

I also believe there is a big difference between a V rated tyre and I think an H rated.

My take on the test was that it was an All Seasons SUV tyre test, but that they'd included two popular AT tyres as technically these two are also classified as All Season tyres. The point of including them being that if you didn't need the additional off-road benefits (not tested), then you'd get better all round performance, particularly in wet braking, from the on-road tyres.

Indeed, if you don't go off road then a dedicated road tyre is the better option.

As for high speed driving - my RRS SDV6 in "mad mode" (sport on the 'box, dynamic mode in Terrain Response) pushes the tyres (AT3) hard but they do well. The vehicle is generally neutral although under power out of a corner a lightening of the steering suggests they just start to push in to understeer, which is not a bad thing in a big vehicle.

I can’t fault the AT3 performance on road. Off road they are good but maybe not as self-cleaning of mud as their open tread might lead you to expect.
Mine won’t have enough tread left to do the coming winter so I’m considering a repeat or some alternatives.
