It is indeed stunning!! On MoOreo at the mo, down on the south side away from the big(ish) hotels to the N. It’s just been tipping it down, humidity has shot up so taking shelter in our lodge. Plus, as usual for this far into a jolly, my back is playing up so it’s nice to give it a rest.
A few pics, well would be rude not to.
Yesterday was spent basically getting to the S of Moorea, our ride across the channel.

And a short (900m) walk to the local takeaway shack for pizza and coke, with prob the best view to feast eyes on while waiting. Domino has no chance!

Today was tour of island, better than hiring a car as some of the places were proper low box 4x4 only tracks.

Will bung up some more pics in a bit, once t’internet decides to start playing properly again!

And the rest of the pics from Moorea. Internet was a bit iffy last night, but weirdly good enough to stream a movie on Disney+.

Now back at Papeete airport, mainly coz there are naff all ferries from Moreea across the channel. There were 4 ferries all leaving at just past 8am, then nothing until 15:00-ish, our flight to Huahine is at 16:10. Also, as it’s Sunday, no buses, and luckily got the only taxi at the ferry terminal. While we usually avoid taxis, it’s just not possible. My back is well dodgy and giving me serious grief at the mo so no way were we hiking either!
Only another 6 hours until our flight!

Not much happening last few days, just flight to Huahine, hassle getting to the hotel, and a serious case of bad lower back. I always seem to get a bad back in a jolly at about the same time, back rebelling against different beds or sitting still on flights for too long!
Puddle jumpers between islands. Yesterday’s flight was a long 30 minutes, tomorrow’s will be a mere 15 min.

And it’s been lovely, apart from the occasional downpour. Brollies saved bacon from getting soggy yesterday!

And meet Charles le Cockerel. First night he did his cock-a-doodle-do thing on our patio from 3:20am! This morning he was quiet. Maybe there was a La Crueset pan with his name on it.
And while in France, baguette + cheese + ham + cheap wine, gorgeous! We had a slight problem with no corkscrew in the room so limited to the cheapest with screw top but most quaffable none the less.

And Charlie loved the crumbs!
Back down to the town, Fare, later for more provisions. And possible pizza!

And a few more pics to post from our travels in French Polynesia. We headed from Moorea (see goog maps) by ferry, taxi to airport then 30 minute puddle jump to Huahine. We didn’t do much in Huahine as I had a seriously dodgy back, just wandered down to the local supermarket a few times to keep Charlie le Cockerel (see above) in the crumbs that he has become accustomed to!
Then yesterday flew from there to Raiatea, again a short flight, too short for bickie and juice on prev flight! We had accom booked down the island but had learned from Moorea that being off the beaten track without a car made life difficult. Hence no transfer worries here, no taxis, just out the airport and turn right. We officially have a sea view, it’s just over the runway! They are not called Airport Bungalows for nothing!

Here’s a gratuitous pano from today.

And view from the a/c of the reef and lagoon around the island. Booooooooooootiful.

The internet here is reliable (unlike last place) but very, very slow. Will bung up more pics with lots of shades of green and blue (sky and sea varieties) once we get to next island, Bora Bora.
Oh and back is a lot better so have a car for the today and tomorrow. Been round the island clockwise today, and, you guessed it, anti-clockwise tomorrow.

And a few more pics from Raiatea. Nice little island, not much in the way of tourists and hotels but good to pottle round in our Renaults KWID. Nope, hadn’t heard of that car until we got the key. And to add to the fun and games of driving on the wrong side of the road from the wrong side of the car, it was a manual!!
Lots and lots of coconut palms. And more on the way. And lots of land crab holes everywhere. We named the crab that lived under our bungalow Charlie, he was the size of a small rugby ball!

A/c got a good wash down at Raiatea Airport, hence it looked so clean on arrival at BOB.

Talking of rain, a squall moved through here a few minutes ago, glad it’s out the way as it’s Happy Hour in 16 minutes, we’d have gotten wet!

A Gecko in the room is a big bonus, as I’m sure you know, they eat insects when not dining out on cakes.

No way was I going to catch Charlie, he paused for a pic and then bolted up into the ceiling somewhere. At least he was nice and quiet last night.
Re weather back home, yes it deffo looks rough so I’ll just have to soak up the sun and heat for you all.

Evening all, and greetings from a pretty wet and squally Bora Bora. We’re a bit confined to quarters at the no until this band of rain moves off.
Bucket list item ticked yesterday, swimming with sharks. OK, not yer great white or tiger sharks but a pretty primordial experience, gorgeous black topped reef sharks we were in with and we saw one lemon shark. I was first off the boat so if they felt a bit peckish then they’d have a feast!

It takes a bit of getting used to, but eventually did a bit of swimming with mask & snorkel and the sharks were swimming a few inches from me, and Mrs DSL! With the mask you can see their teeth!

And bit of reef snorkelling, although tsunami alert was in place after this entry into the lovely warm blue stuff. It was Mrs DSL’s first ever snorkel and she did fantastically, right up to the moment she got a mask, nose and mouth full of salt water. She didn’t panicked as she had me to grab onto. Just glad I still had the tube in my mouth as I sank!

It’s the last full day in Bora Bora, moving on but great place.
