Looks like a Huntsman spider - they get very big in Thailand!
Relatively safe to humans - a bite might give a bit of discomfort but it will scare the bejesus out of you Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Just one thing seen today. Had a wonder round the public bit of the Royal Palace, a bit of shopping then back to the hotel for a nap then bit of treadmill pounding. We were going to go out running along the river but it was 29c at 7am so gave that a miss.

As can be seen from above it was a bit of a dull day, needless to say I didn’t bother with sun screen and got frazzled. Deffo a case of Panda eyes!! Ironically we were out a good bit longer going to a pharmacy for sunscreen!!

Cheers Stew. Last pics from Phnom Penh, we’re off to Siem Reap tomorrow by bus. Good news for that trip is that they have finally sealed the road!

1: Sheldon Cooper’s fun with flags. Sorry re finger in pic. Not many European flags (France, Germany & Italy were all we clocked) but a fair few exotic ones that may have required google assistance.

4. Watching 4 very heavy cement mixers get onto one ferry without it either turning turtle or otherwise sinking. It made it to t’other side ok.

We also watched peeps on boats fishing, and a couple where swimmers were going down to check fish or crustacea traps.

One thing we find strange is all the bikes parked up with the helmets on the wing mirrors or otherwise left on the bike. Prob 50% of peeps wear hard hats when riding, often the helmet is left in the basket, but we couldn’t help thinking that anywhere else the helmets would be knicked in no time. In a UK they’d be used as footballs and booted down the street.

And food time. We’ve eaten in a little restaurant called Kabbas for the last 3 nights. $11 for meal for 2, with drinks and the food is really, really good. Que pic of beef Lok Lak from today, most tasty.

Not wishing to steal your post Del but I thought you’d like to see the small ferry we crossed the Mekong on when there in Feb.
All went well until we had to get out the tuk tuk as it couldn’t make the sandy slope on the other side.
The lightly loaded truck (by Cambodian standards) struggled to. For those who tow caravans on here don’t talk to me about payloads !
What you can’t see are the “life savers” on board the ferry, which were empty plastic containers. At least they were sealed with the lids on.

Re ferry, now that would be fun in the rainy season.
Oh, and judging from the debris on the corridor floor Terry likes fruit so is a fruit eating pterodactyl.

A few pics from yesterday. That was basically 6 hours on the bus from Phnom Penh. Lots of rice fields and pretty scenery.

Unfortunately the bus station for Giant Ibis is about 4km out of town so another tuctuc ride & we’re into town and at the hotel. Also we ended up at the wrong hotel as 2 have similar name but the correct hotel sent a van for us, we’re obviously not the first to have made that mistake.

Today was a true bucket list item ticked, well pt1. Great organised tour of the main parts, tour tomorrow to more outlying parts, then 4 days after that exploring on our own. I’ve got about a gazillion pics from today so will sort out the best ones & bung them up. With the tour tomorrow, hopefully Martin doesn’t need to find a bigger server.

OK, pics from yesterday’s jolly/tour of Angkor Wat and other temples in the area. Angkor Wat has always been a bucket list of mine since I was a little one so with 6 days here itch is getting a good scratch. Just don’t ask any questions re the history, it’s bleedin complicated with various kings, changes in religions back and for ways between Buddhism and Hinduism, moving capitols around the empire and various assorted wars and conflicts. It’s all a bit complex for me so I stuck to taking pics and asking the odd question. Just when you think you know what’s going on and are trying to follow the plot it all goes a bit pear shaped.
While any comments below sound authorative, they are all have an unwritten “ISTR” or “I may be completely wrong but .........”
Our guide for the day, Phyrom. Luckily he realised we tourists were too daft to remember that so he called himself Peter. All the tour guides wore the same shirts as a uniform do it was tricky trying to find him but we’d just listen for his call “Peter Family” as we’d be back in line.

Our first view of the W gate of Angkor Wat, the main temple/crowd pleaser. Here where park staff were clearing the water lilly flowers from the old moat. Shame as they were pretty.

The old walkway was being renovated so we walked across a temp inflated walkway. SWMBO want that happy when I started walking such that it started bouncing up & down. Worth it for the view.

Lots and lots and lots of carvings showing the history in story form. All waaaaaaay too complicated for me.

Then up to the top level of Angkor Wat. Very steep staircase but well worth it. Timing was good as it was closed the day before due to a complicated lunar calendar day thingie.

After lunch it was off to the Ta Prohm temple, the one where Tomb Raider was filmed. Needless to say thereafter it was just referred to as the Tomb Raider Temple.
Here they are repairing the damage that was done to find whatever Lara Croft was trying to find, or the baddies were trying not to loose it.

Fantastic trees growing through the temple. Angkor Wat didn’t suffer this fate as after the capital was moved to Phnom Penh a monastery was set up and the Buddhist monks looked after the temple and removed the small trees before they could take over. The other temples didn’t get that lucky. Makes fantastic sights though.
