That was the chap feeding the rays, didn’t notice that til looked at the pics. He knew what he was doing, he’d hold about a 1” long piece of fish in the water and the rays would swim in and suck the fish from his hand. When one swam over my foot that’s the feeling I suddenly had on my big toe!

It was deffo one of the top highlights of travels so far. Thumbs Up

Bit of catchup from yesterday. Meet Steve the Stick Insect. Cute critter, until it was found by SWMBO on her arm. Cute, but not that cute. This pic was taken after it got the big brush off so survived. Hope its hearing is OK after the girly scream that might have been issued. Whistle Whistle

Before we went to Hamlin Bay we stopped at Lake Cave to tour a cave that’s been exposed via a big sink hole.

Unfortunately what goes down must drag its arras back up. Big Cry Big Cry

Aussie fire breathing dragon. Thumbs Up

And today down to Point d’Entrecasteaux. Nice drive down and lovely views at the point. Thumbs Up

Note natty line in headwear. There were a few flies around and they were getting pesky so the net stayed on, well until we saw peeps heading our way. Laughing Laughing

This is Salmon Beach on the right of the above pic.

Note warning. Resisted the urge to dip toe in the water considering there was a fatal shark encounter along the coast a bit in Esperance not that long ago. Plus it was a bit chillie. Whistle

And a pano, well would be rude not to. Thumbs Up

Finally the Gloucester Tree just outside Pemberton. Instead of building towers to watch for fires in the 30s they basically turned the tallest trees into towers with a platform at the top. Simples.

Note peeps passing. I’d be hugging the tree and saying “after you”. Thumbs Up

Now I can see a number of reasons on this notice not too go up.

But I braved the dreaded rebar and headed up. SWMBO climbed the tree next to it, that’s why it looks like I’m just at the base of the tree. Honest!! Laughing Laughing

And something for all those that drool over the Aussie off-roading combos, here at the filling station next to the hotel. Most drool worthy. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

And finally rejoicing in latest VinCol purchase. Remember this stuff?

We were going to buy 4 bottles for $40 (BOGOF offer), then noticed it was $50 for a case of 12. That’s £2.21 a bottle!! And it’s past vino o’clock. Mr. Green Mr. Green

That tree thing looks dodgy as hell. How does one come down? The same way less taking the express? Mr. Green

Down is basically, as you say, same as up with less effort. That would be the scarier direction for me. It’s a pretty big tree that’s been a fire tower for almost 90 years so wouldn’t be worried re the tree, I’d be worried re missing the rebar on the way down & letting gravity take hold. Thumbs Up

Lots of seriously big trees to hug, gonna need longer arms.

Will play catch up later, just a couple of pics from Albany, the departure point for many Aussies & Kiwis in 1914.

More pics later, prob once we’re back to Albany after sleeping in the C-47 tomorrow. That’ll be interesting. Thumbs Up

Right folks, bit of catchup from the bottom left corner of Aus. Thumbs Up

Great view spot on the road down from Pemberton to Albany. Lovely view through to the Southern Ocean. Thumbs Up

We had hoped to go to the Mount Franklin National Park as all the roads in are unsealed, something banned by Thrifty for non proper 4WDs. We’re back up to Perth tomorrow and swapping our 2WD ASX SUV for a 4WD Mitsubishi. Thumbs Up

And Green Pools Beach. Pretty busy as it was a Sunday.

No prizes for guessing which animal these rocks are named after. Whistle Whistle

Ah so that’s what a possum looks like. Didn’t see any, nor Dame Edna Everage.

And a lovely little beach called Little Beach.

Good place to kick off the boots ......

....... and complete another bucket list item, paddling in every ocean on the planet. Southern Ocean = ticked. And yes, it’s freeeeeeeeeeeezing!!

Somewhere on the planet it’s Pano-time. Thumbs Up

And some great dunes that are part of the William Bay National Park. It was great watching the sand being whipped off the top of the dunes, esp from inside the car. Whistle

Then the drive up through the Stirling National Park to the Dakota. We knew the roads in the park, both sealed and unsealed, were closed due to the fires three weeks ago. It’s the first large scale burnt out areas we’d seen and it was from mountain ridge to mountain ridge going through the park.

These grass tree thingies are already making a comeback.

Plus a mama emu and 4 little ‘uns crossed the road in front of us and disappeared into the burnt out area.

And then down to The Gap just south of Albany. It was really windy and funnelling some great waves in through a narrowing channel.

Just about managed to hang on to my phone, and had to take several brave pills, as pics were taken from above the channel on this platform, Shocked

T’other side of The Gap’s path is another beach.

And a very impressive rock bridge. Thumbs Up

Now all that salt in the air was getting us thinking of fish & chips. It was lunch time so off to the chappie Aussie style. I do emphasise this was for both of us. Thumbs Up

Resisted the urge to try the DFMB. Whistle Whistle

Mind you if we needed extra salt for the chips there was plenty on the car. Whistle

And finally, my fave pic from the Dakota. Unfortunately no star gazing was undertaken as it was solid cloud. Big Cry Big Cry
