Guidance - Changing Airbag ECU

Hi all,

Can anyone give guidance on the Airbag ECU?

Mine i believe is goosed,

Can anyone tell me if i need a brand new one or can use a second hand one?

Also - How does one go about programming a different module? is it a specialist job?

Thanks

Hi Jack,

For your D3 I presume...

Had mine replaced a year or two back. I'm afraid you will need a new one and a capable garage (LR specialist indy did mine) to programme it.

I understand that it's a one-time flash to programme the memory, hence second hand units no good.

Good luck!

Hi

Sorry for the delay - I have now fixed this.

It was the airbag ECU.

What i did in the end was purchase a second hand module of the same model number.

Sent both the old and new to the ECU doctor - http://www.ecu-doctors.co.uk/

He was able to take the vehicle specific info from mine and put it on the old, sent it back and refitted.

All works perfectly. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thanks to GStuart also for your help on this one.

Hey Jack,
That's very interesting and must of saved you a few quid re-using a second hand ECU. I was told that the memory flash was a one-time event, necessitating a new module, so the ECU-Doctor's must have a way around that.
Appreciate the update Thumbs Up

They would have swapped the security chips over inside the ecu, all the info noves accross with it.

aja4x4 - thanks for the explanation.

All the info but none of the faults I'm guessing...

As long as its not that chip that was faulty, i have done it a few times on Toyota ECU's saves a small fortune as long as it works.
