Halfords socket sets, mega deals at the mo!

Hi,

I was just looking for a new case for my socket set and halfords have some very good deals on their advanced range at the moment.

https://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/socket-sets

I know a lot of people get sniffy about "Halfrauds" but I have had a Halfords Pro set for getting on for 20 years and worked on all my cars and Fergie etc, its stood up well to being rained on etc and some decent use so for a DIY mechanic I think they are fine.

(oh and their flip head ratchet spanners are bloody great)

The joy of the advance range if is something fails, you can literally walk into a store and swap it over on the spot.

I’ve worked in mechanical engineering in one form or another all my working life, absolutely nothing wrong with Halfords pro/industrial/advanced or whatever they are branding it now. I’ve been using their stuff for 20+ years. The only time I’ve broken anything is through misuse and they replace on the spot. Whistle
Yeah sure for professional garages etc the likes of snap on or teng etc etc maybe better but the cost of their stuff is mad for what it is.

Interesting you say that, I've heard a lot of negative feedback regarding Snap On recently, quality issues!

Snap on is fine, but it isnt what it once was, for example the impact sockets just dont seem to last as long as they did, but you have to bare in mind todays crop of air and cordless guns are way more powerful than stuff from 20 years ago, so the sockets get some serious abuse.

Their MG air guns are amazing, their battery guns less so and twice the price of say Milwaukee which are very very good.

I reckon snap on are still the best if you need them for a living, but their prices are now just silly, even second hand stuff is to expensive, on the upside you can buy safe in the knowledge that the tools will always have a value even when old.

Many full time mechs use non snap on tools and seem to manage and by manage I mean struggle or make do, whereas the right tools makes the job a doddle.
