Hand brake cable

Hi, had to investigate a noise coming from my rear hub, turned out that the pin holding the shoe in place and corroded and the clip got itself lodged in one of the springs. Long story short I removed all the shoes and springs and put the wheel back together as I needed to use the car. My mistakes started from not looking at Bodsy's brake bible, on to that I went to put new brake shoes in today only to find the cable has shot off up inside the spring. How do I get this cable to now release so that I can put the new shoes in? Many thanks

Do you have a gap iid ?

You could try puttingthe epb into service mode and see what happens

Otherwise you may have to get the cover off the epb

It’s possible to wind it back out with the IID, but it depends what software version/ model year it is….
Early ones need the module opening, later ones can be wound out with the module closed

Thank you for the info.

Yes I have an IID tool, it's a 2015 HSE.

Would it be the "unjam" procedure or placing the EPB in to service mode then pull the cable back out?
Many thanks again.

Strip the hubs down, and try the unjam procedure several times and it should keep pushing the cable out bit by bit, if it screams, then they’re at they’re limit Thumbs Up
