Hand Car wash places.
Was recently talking to someone about anodised products fading.
Apparently one of the reasons is the Traffic Film Removers (TFR) and acidic alloy wheel cleaners often used as a pre wash at hand car wash places. These chemicals are used to quickly lift off the dirt from the vehicle making the washing process a lot faster.
So I did a little bit of googling and found 10 reasons not to use a hand car wash here
Think I will be revisiting how we keep our vehicles clean after reading that.

I heard from somone who has a detailing business (perhaps he had an agenda here!) that 'some' of the hand car wash placed use patio cleaner, because its cheap, and it's mildly acidic thereby lifting dirt quickly.
And taking the surface off your car at the same time!

I'd never use one. I just wouldn't trust where those cloths and sponges have been. I bet they get dropped on the floor then straight back in the bucket. I think they are actually more high risk than an automatic car wash.Kev

I’d rather let the car get dirty than use,
1. Car wash
2. Hand car wash
3. Power wash
4. The main dealer
Once a week, I use a bucket, a good quality car shampoo and a lambs wool mit.
Detailing is unnecessary OCD imho. If you must, wax it yourself.

I never use them, once a month I’ll do mine. Mainly I use Auto Finesse products, snow foam, hand wash then hand polish/wax with Auto Finesse Radiance which gives a glass like feel to the paint and lasts a couple of months making it easier to get the dirt off.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

The pressure washer used by these forecourt wash stands is very bad for brake calipers and all those electrical connections under the D3/D4.
Best avoided...
The comment on Patio cleaner is especially worrying!! But I'm not surprised.2011 MY D4 HSE
