Apparently muddy water and the new handbrake system do not mix.
I have had my entire system replaced.

It is OK for light use, but serious immersion can cause some problems any LRE guys will tell you that..

I was talking about light use.
Basically poorly designed system, not allowing muddy water to drain properly, and not adequate access to hose out the build up.
Would have been better if it was a disc brake system or a central diff lock system so that all four wheel are locked instead of just the rear two.
What is the point of a 4WD if it cannot be taken through mud and muddy water.

Didn't have any problems post Tixover - and that was muddy water !

I've done plenty of wading, including Tixover quality mud  and not had a problem yet.

It can... even the 'retro disco' had problems with water in the handbrake... as did / do Transit's / Mundano's / Vectra's etc.
I think the main issue is making sure as far as possible that as much mud & muck is clear of the brakes as possible. I've immersed mine in various amounts of sticky stuff and never had a problem, maybe something related to a fair amount of reversing and not jetwashing the brakes too much without driving the vehicle afterwards?

It does not happen immediately.
The water drains, leaving behind sediments that dry up and wear the handbrake pads down. As it wears down, the mechanism that is in place to hold the handbrake in the active position fails and you get this awful howling noise as the handbrake is activated.

Ditto Tixover and the mud, BUT .. First time anyone has mentioned the Howling noise when the HB is applied. I've had that since day one, and only got it muddy last month after 15k miles , and I just thought it was normal, even a bit cool, sort of let you know its on. Everything seems to be working just fine , at the monent .. ..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

Yes mine has made a howling noise from day 1, sounds like an electric motor coming under load. If anything, its got quieter as time has passed.

The new electric brake system does make a noise when the HB is applied, that is normal.
The noise that i am talking about turns heads from a 100 metres away.
Noticeably different. It is the noice made when the electrically operated arms are stretched to their limit to tighten the worn brake pads.
Funny thing though, does not happen when brake applied in D or R only in P or N.

The D3 I had on the LR Experience lost all electronic aids due to ingress of muddy water. The Instructor said that it had never happened before but did warn us before we started that we would be assaulted by spurious warning lights as mud got on the sensors.
Seems a bit of a weakness for a proper off roader, good job ours is only used as the family wagon at the mo'.

D3, I have had exactly the same problem when hand brake appiled, terrible howling noise ( fortunately I managed to replicate when at dealers & as you say it turns a few heads). As a result new rear discs to include integral hand brake drums & new hand brake shoes fitted, it is a known problem & have spoken about on another thread. Thanks for all the feed back guys, gee i like this forum a lot and have been letting everyone know about it.
It is a winner for owners and for LR, hopefully a more brilliant product will arise than the one we already own.
Such a warm anf fuzzy feeling..............LOL.
Tixover sounds like a fun place, must visit it when i get to the UK.

Handbrake was not working on the LRE D3 today, not a problem being auto. Zermatt silver 06 reg.
Gone but not forgotten !!!
