I wouldn't run an engine with the oil level as high as the full mark on the dipstick. Always half way between low & full.
2 litres over full is certainly going to cause  trouble.
Garage sound like complete  ing idiots.

Second opinion will be done, just want to know if the bearing issue sounds plausible to be caused by running the car without oil, even only for 1 mile.

I imagine if you have 3mm in the thrust bearing on the crank, the big ends and mains will be absolutely fubared...
Sorry... New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Yep, we're sorry also. Loved the car. Has done 354.000Km. And still running as new. Before the MOT that was...
Maybe I'll break the car myself. In parts I'll get a lot more then what I got offered now.
Still interested if oil starvation would cause the bearing play.

I heard a story from a good source not that long ago concerning a daf mx engine where the guys were servicing it and were busy chatting, so busy they forgot to put any oil in and when they started it they carried on chatting and the engine seized shortly afterwards, they allowed it to cool stuck some oil in and got away with it, its was not one of their trucks so who knows how much longer it ran for?
So if the D3 was driven with no oil for 1 mile thats going to kill it pdq.
Ive ran many a car for short periods of time with no coolant but never with no oil.

Another question to the OP - is it just the garage who said that they drove for c. a mile after the engine dropped its oil? When my car is serviced it usually comes back with a good few extra miles added to the clock by the main dealers. Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Both genuine LR parts from Advanced Factors.
Done 8500+K after belt change including summer holiday to Italy crossing the Alps. It's been quite a few times under heavy load after the belt change.
This happened on a speed limited road (max 50Km/h).
I estimated the mile because the mentioned the road where the oil loss happened. But could be more, but not that much.

An excess of 1L engine oil would not raise the crankcase pressure excessively, if the CCV system is working correctly (and I have not seen, Nor heard of one having an issue)
I have had a few front crank seals fall out. Frustrating, but it happens, and no engines suffered any damage. Best guess was a duff batch of OEM seals caused it...
Since changing to genuine, I have not had any further issues
I suspect this may just be sheer coincidence... My D3 Build Thread

I don't think it was only 1L. They told us only 1, they phoned an independent LR dealer after it happened and to them they mentioned 1,5-2L. I think they added a lot more.
The coincidence of the seal failing at this moment, minutes after adding the oil is hard to believe. They drove the car before that without any issues. And we 8500km before that.
Still, what would be the result of driving it with almost no oil?

Would have thought most mechanics/engineers would consider running an engine with no oil is going to cause damage pdq.
all sounds a bit sus' but proof is needed.
Have to say, over filled mine by a good litre many years ago, never had any problems, sorry.

PS just re read, you think it was overfilled by more than 2 litres, yea very suspect i would have thought.
PS what does a £40 sump plug look like.
