Harder ride from 20" wheels? |
|
I've recently changed from a D3 with 19" wheels and Pirelli Scorpion ATRs to a D4 with 20" wheels and Scorpion Zeros. The ride feels harder and poor road surfaces more obvious.
Might I improve things by changing to 19" wheels on the D4 or do you think the difference is down to Scorpion ATR versus Scorpion Zero?
Many thanks. Land Rover 80" station wagon (1949)

20 inch does give a firmer ride.

Only my opinion but bigger wheels means less cushioning than smaller wheels with deeper rubber. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

It all depends on pressure and tyre section, if they are both "55" and same pressure there should be no noticeable difference. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

D4 has slightly different suspension set up ISTR - same as the T5 based RRS - may contribute to difference - can’t remember if that’s a fact though

Just put my 20” Sumer wheels on it came with 19” wheels I find the only difference in the way the car looks but the D4 ride is definitely different to the D3 well I noticed it when I changed anyway

When I got my last one and my Landmark one of the first things I did was to change the wheels to 19" and I personally think it makes a huge difference to the ride. Cheers Ian
