HDC

Don't know whether you guys are aware, but so you can practice before the 7th. The HDC is controllable via the cruise control buttons. If you place the car in neautral and decend a hill you can slow the decent down or speed it up with the cruise buttons, try it, its fun. Speeds below 40kph apply though.

Aparently really bad for the abs though said the LRE people. Not recommended other than in an emergency. One should always use HDC in conjunction with engine breaking...so they say.

They are spot on, but ask them why it was put in that way. Simple to overcome a problem with a missed or broken gear when descending, which can happen. Engine braking is always first.

The speed control works fine without being in neutral, so you can brake or accelerate and still have the HDC working if you don't step on anything.

The thing about HDC that I picked up on at Eastnor yesterday is you have to be going fast enough to use it. It doesn't operate until you're doing 3.5 mph, there's so much torque in the TDV6 that you can let it walk down the hills without the HDC cutting in unless you speed up a bit

Yes, HDC is actually a bi-product of ABS. The idea is for double safety and to take the decent out of the control of the driver as most things are now a days in motor cars. Mike no doubt told you to let the car do the work ?

The reality is that (and with no disrespect to LRE) they are product sellers on one marque. Do you plan to do your level 2, if so they will insist that you do it in a Defender. There they will speak about TC an awful lot, but if you did the course in a Series 2, few of the guys at Eastnor could actually take you round now. Martin could, Chris B and Chris could, but then it gets a bit thin.

When you come over to Tixover then you can learn about your car properly because the guys like me earn our living out of pro off road in the real world. There should be a load of other very serious guys on the 7th you can watch and speak too. I think it will be of great interest to you.

Any way must go, off to Billing now for some REAL fun on a sunny day. Yahoo as they say in the good old US of A.

I am intending to do the level 2, perhaps I should do it in my Series III Wink

Yes I'm looking at level 2, but was recommended to take 6 months getting used to my car before looking at taking level 2. I've now found 2 off road sites locally that I'm going to have a look at!

Slimer, they are owned by the same company and are very popular. One is a chalk pit and one in the woods with a trail suitable for shiney 4x4s!
