HDC Fault

Hi All,

Got a issue with my disco 3 where I get a HDC fault every time I turn full right lock. Left lock doesn't cause the problem. The faults clears on turning ignition off and then on again.

It also seems to cause an issue with the traction control coming on and feels like it anchors the brakes on and the traction control light flashes up.

I think I can rule out it being the steering angle sensor.
I have remove the sound deadening away from above the pedals to get the the steering shaft and can see with someone turning the steering wheel from lock to lock a few times. That the outer black plastic stays still and the inner plastic made of two parts, one off white, the other a more dirty white/browny colour, move with the metal shaft, there is a very minor bit of play between the two plastics both they both rotate with the steering.
See Photo

The battery is a year old and the correct size, all lights are working correctly.

Where do I need to look now?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

Have u tried plugging a code reader in to ensure that with the wheels dead straight that the steering wheel angle sensor is at 0 degrees as it may be off and just req calibrating

Plus can see what codes come up

Also ref the battery , always best to use a multimeter to see what the Vdc are with the engine off as indeed low battery can cause havoc with the system

Due to the complexity of these landies it’s highly recommend to have a code reader

Hope that helps

No unfortunately I do not own a code reader that fits.

I will look at purchasing one.

Will the code reader be able to calibrate the steering wheel angle sensor?

Or is it a case of maybe not if I buy a cheap one.

Hi

There are several codes readers around , a gap iid which will do virtually everything ur ever need but are around £420 , or there’s an Autel AP200 that’s £50.00

The Autel is very basic but will read codes , program keys and also reset the steering wheel angle sensor

Hope that helps u
