HDC FAULT not going help!

So after a month of owning a D3, the HDC fault, suspension lowering started. So looked on this forum etc, and saw my brake and reverse bulbs had gone, voltage from the battery was ok.

So i changed the bulbs ( from land rover )
changed the Brake module uunder the dash ( landrover again )
Changed the battery. ( charged it all up before putting it on )

So drove it today for 20 miles or so, all ok. Then it started, and i had to stop 20 times or so on the way home as the fault re appeared. Cylceing the ignition, got rid of it, then a mile or so down the road, it would do it again. Checked bulbs, and they are still ok, they have not blown.

So where can i go from here, im thinking go to land rover and get them to read the codes and wipe them for me, and go from there?

Unless there is anyone near huddersfield , west yorks who can read it and ill pay them?

Hoping that i can get this fixed, as its starting to get to me now, and i may just bin this car off and take the hit as an expensive mistake, and end my relationship with land rover!

Thanks in advance

You really need to get the codes read, that will give you a starting point.

Sounds like a CANBUS issue, which is the comms link within the car. When it goes down all of the various modules switch into a limp mode to get you home, because they cannot communicate with one another.

You have tried the obvious: Brake Light Switch, Bulbs, Battery. Have you checked the TCCM behind the battery for water ingress?

Also check the two connectors and cable behind the rear wheel on the left hand side of the car (as you stand behind looking at the back of it). There is a plastic cover which you can pull down. The cable rubs on the suspension and wears through to bare wire.

As others indicate on the forum the more 'bongs' and faults displayed usually the less that's wrong with it!

Thanks for the reply- there was water down to the right behind the battery- because the rubber seal around the engine bay had shrunk. So ive moved it round and also sealed it up so no water can get in via that seal. I did look down there with a torch earlier, to check, and there is no water down there. I did dry it all last week, and i took the battery out.

Ive been reading that it could be so many things, fuel pressure, fuel filter, abs sensor, ride height sensor, of the wheels are not alligned etc.

In my eyes , id rather the fault happened at startup- rather than 20
Miles down the road, its like its enticing me to drive it ..lol.... go on, im fine, then 20 mins down the road, bong bong etc etc...

Do u know why it only happens after 20
Mins or so? And then turning it on and off clears it for a while?

Hi, mine was doing exactly the same thing, every time I drove for over 30 mind dropped like a stone Embarassed
Wife blamed me for buying a lemon... Got wheel alignment done and sensor reset and never done it since, I use a enthusiast who comes to me, I could perhaps send him your details and he would be able to reset it, doesn't cost the earth and he knows his stuff.

Stick with the car and iron out the issues, I'm nearly into my fourth year now and it's been a fantastic experience and hasn't cost me much to maintain and do the work myself and get done for me.
Regular maintenance etc these are great to own

I had a very similar experience, 20 odd minutes down the road, Christmas tree and lowered suspension. Reset it all (was very relieved I'd left the IID tool in the car!), same again 20 minutes later.

+1 on the steering angle sensor being the culprit. I re-calibrated mine and it hasn't happened since. Can't remember the exact code it was giving, but it was something along the lines of 'angle sensor plausibility error based on algorithm'

This might help explain it better than I can! https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/dsc-kicking...59-30.html

You can calibrate the steering sensor with one of these:

https://www.autelstore.co.uk/wholesale/aut...lNEALw_wcB

it's £50 quid and works quite well for basic functions and reading codes.

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your enquiry, for 1 hours diagnosis it is £145 + vat.

Depending on what is found we would let you know any other additional costs.

So i bought a icarsoft and just plugged in....

Before i read the codes out.... I have noticed the traction control kicks in when im going around a left hand bend, quite a few times. and then also now and again, hdc fault, suspension lowering etc etc

So the codes
b1b70
u0416
u0401
u0100
b1b44 ( this is reverse beepers )
u0428
p045d
p045c

So i have cleared them all, but is one pointing to the Steering Angler Sensor? Or the Ride Height Sensor or the ABS sensor, or all?....

Cheers Everyone

Ive got a video of my steering angle sensor while parked up- and the yellow bit turns with rhe steering column. Is that wjat its meant to do?

Others will confirm, but I think that's the ABS sensor. Would also cause the HDC fault.

Did you check the wiring as detailed in this thread? https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic105838...+HDC+fault

Might save you the cost of the sensors!
