HDC Fault, Range Change Error and Suspension Drop

Hi

I'm new to this forum but I have a problem with my Disco 3 and could really do with some help / advice.

When I start the car I sometimes (75% of the time) get a random collection of errors that include:
HDC fault
Special Programs Not Available
Transmission Fault
Range Change Not Available
Suspension Lowered
and on and on but importantly, neither the car or my Autolink fault reader show any error codes.

It's like the car is throwing a phantom wobbly and not reporting any errros other than the ping of death sound and dashboard lights.

I've recently, 3 weeks ago, had a number of components replaced when I broke down 200 miles from home. They were:
2 new ride height sensors
replacement transmission ecu
replacement suspension ecy
new battery
replacement airbag unit
new brake light switch

When the garage had finished everything was working 100% and I picked up the car and drove it home.

Since then, the errors have got more frequent and I'm a little baffled by the lack of error codes.

I've tried starting it whilst pressing the brake pedal and that helped for a while but today, I couldn't clear the lights at all.

I've got a new Denso alternator on the way because the garage, which was 200 miles away strongly suggested that a faulty alternator would cause the above, especially as there's no error codes.

When the car is running with heated seats on, lights and wipers, my voltage, is being reported as 13.5V which seems low to me.

When parked up, the voltage drops to 12.2V but as I've said, it's a new battery and if I charge it with my Crytek charger it charges fully up to 12.8 ish

I wanted to get your collective brains involved before I head off down another dead end road with the problem as I just don't understand it anymore.

Would really appreciate your thoughts before I go totally around the bend.

Thanks

I had the exact same issue and it was the steering angle sensor alignment. This can be easily recalibrated with an IID tool if you have one or a good Land Rover Indy will be able to do it usiong Auto Logic for £20-£30 ish

The calibration takes litrally two minutes.

Set wheels dead straight (not steering wheel but actual tyres) and press calibrate! Job done!

Hi Littlewill and thanks for the reply.

What IID tool does it do you know?

No I think you need the GAP IID Tool or Auto Logic system (this is usually what most dealers use). Where are you? perhaps someone is local to you that will do it for beer tokens?

Hi

I’m based just outside High Wycombe in Bucks.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

I had the SAS checked and Four wheel alignment is all okay.

I've got a new Denso alternator going in on Tuesday so maybe that will help.

It doesn't error if I leave a charger on until full and then try it but once it's started and run, the errors come back.

The garage double checked me on the error reporting of codes as well and there were a lot. They range from communication errors to charge level errors and HDC faults.

My fault reader is now in the bin!

A NANACOM evo will also set the steering angle

Thanks Overlandrover

I thought I’d made significant progress last week.

I spent a day disconnecting and reconnecting cables, lights & fuses etc.

All the faults vanished and the car behaved perfectly for 4 days. Yesterday after driving around all day, I got that dreadful bong error noise and Range change not available again.

The car drove home fine but when I turned it off and on again all the warnings are back and they won’t go away.

What I’m getting is

On turning on the ignition the following lights appear immediately on the dash:
Low range light-flashing green
DSC - solid amber
BRAKE- solid amber
With the messages: SYSTEM FAULT SPECIAL PROGRAMS NOT AVAILABLE HDC FAULT SYSTEM NOT AVAILABLE SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF Also, the range selector in the center flashes

No matter what I do, disconnect and reconnect the power etc. The lights / problems come on as soon as turn on the ignition and won’t stop.

Any ideas anyone?

You need diagnostic codes before going any further, to establish what's going on.

I have the GAP IID BT version which has paid for itself over and over again in diagnosing niggly little problems.

Hi thanks for the feedback.

I’ve just managed to get it to stop flashing by doing an ECU reset. Once I’d done it, everything works again but no idea how long for!

I don’t have an ECU reader to get the codes and I don’t have £500
to spend on one currently.

Why would it all work again after an ECU reset, not wishing to sound thick?

Hi guys I got similar problems HDC coming up an saying special programs not available an the suspension dropping an dash saying engine system fault, if read it could be the battery on way out or alternator not giving enough juice.
Only had the car 4 days, it's making me think I should of kept my td5 😂
