Headlamp masking details

Hi Guys, I know we've covered this in detail for Xenons where it isn't necessary due to the adjustment lever, but I'm heading off to Italy in the D3 and need to mask my standard Halogens. Below is the diagram from the LR tech bulletins describing how the dealers would do it. It has all the dimensions I need. Question is, what do I use? Black masking tape can reportedly damage the polycarbonate glass, so can I use decal vinyl or aluminium tape? Has anyone else done this procedure? Another question is, why does the blanking decal appear to cover the 'wrong' side of the headlamp? I would have thought that to prevent blinding people on the passenger side, I would need to blank that side, but the diagram (and yes I've checked it's the correct one for a UK-spec vehicle) puts it on the other side Confused I guess it has something to do with the way the light is projected?

I just used used Grey Duct Tape - cut out accuratlely & fixed to the dimensions as shown in the Tech. bulletin - seemed to work OK. Razz
Upon removing it back in Blighty I did get some resdidual sticky stuff left behind but this hardened after a couple of weeks allowing it to be removed with a bit of elbow grease & glass cleaner.
Thumbs Up
