Headlamps acting like high beam |
|
Hi,
My car is a HSE disco 3 which has Bi-Xenon. Bi-xenon does not have adaptive steering support.
Whenever I pull the lever and release it to warn someone with the headlamp high beams my Headlamps start to act like high beams.
They are trying to show far ahead like high beams.
Is this a feature or electronic fault ?
Because on the high way people get annoyed by my headlamps hurting their eyes even if I'm not using high beams.
At night when there are no cars, it is cool that my bi-xenons are already showing me what's ahead by acting like headlamp high beam. But when a car shows up I can't turn it off. Sometimes I spam by pulling the lever more than once and if I'm lucky it calibrates back to normal. It sometimes happens that when I use the horn, my xi-xenons stop acting like headlamp high beams.
Regards

Sounds like the shutter is sticking. Will be fixed under warranty by a replacement headlight unit. If out of warranty, then yoiu will need to buy some replacements I'm afraid Bodsys Brake Bible

It seems that the flap inside the xenon light is sticking (it opens and closes - depending on whether low or high beam is selected) - there was a thread about it getting stuck - you need to go to dealer for a fix or replacement.

It's not always a problem in the headlight unit. See the photos in this link: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post422141.html#422141
The fault was traced to a problem in the light stalk switch, which was causing some piece of electrickery in the car to get into a tizzy and throw the lights into various unpredictable states. New switch, and problem solved.
Edited Friday 1 May 2009 to say that I spoke too soon. The problem is back, in both headlamps.

Question to someone in the know - do the dismantling instructions here bring you within reach of the sticking shutter for a cheaper fix? Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

I'd also like to know if i can fix rather than replace these headlights. Need to save my cash for all the other repairs!

I'd suspect it may be a faulty control switch. If pressing the horn or being rough with the stalk dips the lamps, it is most likely the fault is at that area. Renny Thomson
