So if I take the 12V from the lighter I do not need to modify the CCF.
In my case where the 12V is provided by the original D4 harness I need to modify the CCF.
But now, the new questions are:
1. why there are 2 settings?
2. how does it differ?
3. how do I set them? (only the 1st, only the 2nd) or both?)
Ok I can always change the cable with one (taken from D4.com's shop ) in parallel to the cigarette lighter, I know, but I would do the installation "well done"!
The fastest way is that someone with good soul with the Discovery 4 (even better MY2011) having a heated steering wheel and the IIDTool (also Nanocom is fine) that peek these two items into the CCF. Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition IID Pro MV License

Asking the obvious but are you 100% certain the feed into (& out of) the clock spring is not live when the ignition is on??
I only mention it as my MY2010 didn't even have the heated clock spring but when I fitted one, connected the plug (taped up with grey foam on the end inside the steering cowl) & fitted the heated wheel it all worked with no need to plug any computermabob thingy in
