Heated Washers?

read a few of the threads last week as I too had no washers.

Found fuse 11 in Glove Box had blown so as per threads replaced with 15A - all seems fine.

I thought I would check to see if I had heated nozzles, on looking at the pipe into the underhood cover it appears to have a wire taped to it and there is a fuse in Slot 12 next to battery, Fuse was OK tho.

Its a MY06 SE - am I likely to have this option? Was too cold to take the cover off to check.

If I do not sure how/when they are activated. I had snow on the bonnet the other day and didnt see andy tell/tale rings on the bonnet where it may have been hot.

I have a 06MY D3 HSE (which I think should have heated screen wash jets) but . . . . no sign whatsoever of anything melting around the jets, and they seem to be frozen up solid in this current spate of cold weather Sad

I have checked all the fuses, and upgraded to 15A etc etc

The headlamp ones seem fine (so, why don't they freeze Shocked ))
Never get mad - get even !!

06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

My heated nozzles are not working. I mentioned this to the dealers a couple of weeks ago and they changed the nozzles, however still no sign of any thawing at all (and I remember in the early days you'd get a good 3" melt spot around each nozzle).

Today I re-checked the fuses (OK) and the timer-relay(OK).

Measuring the current at fuse 12, at first connect it starts at 1A and then drops to 0.3A over 5 seconds. It stays there until the timer relay cuts the power, then repeats the 1A to 0.3A when the power comes back.
4W doesn't seem like a lot of heating capability, so I'm guessing something is wrong.

Can someone with working nozzles (oooh errrr!) please do a current check at fuse 12 in the battery box and post the results? Thanks!

By the way, my mirrors are toasty, and for the record draw 3.5A (at fuse 14 in the battery box).

Happy new year everyone. I've got a 05 SE, I presume that there are heated jets but haven't seen a patch of melted ice around said jets. Previously have swapped the fuse out, re-seated the relay. Does the car use the external temp probe to decide when to activate the heated jets?
Cheers

I used to get this on my MY05... haven't noticed it of late and washer jets were frozen this morning when I started out.

Bear in mind when checking the circuit current draw that the relay also powers the heated mirrors, the relay is controlled by the ATCM, operation is normally 'on' for a period of time relative to the external temperature then 'pulsed' for either a secondary period of time or until engine off signal. It's not uncommon for the heated washer jets to fail...
Basically, if the mirrors are warm, the washer jets should be heating up - if you have heated mirrors it does NOT mean you have heated washer jets though, check for wiring taped along the washer jet pipe on the N/S of the bonnet, by the hinge

Phew, I don't feel so inadequate anymore... Wink

Is there a definite melted area around functional heated nozzles? The other day, I thought that my NS jet was heating, but the OS wasn't, but then I drove into sun and the whole bonnet melted.

I tried tonight and did not get any melted area - I deliberately didn't use the washers as the washer fluid would melt the ice (presuming that it hadn't frozen...), thereby ruining the test.

Hmmm, neither the heated mirrors or the heated washer jets (they are, I've checked !) are working on mine - it's too damn cold and dark to go poking around now, but which fuse(s) do I need to check in the morning ?

Thanks,

jimbod3 im with you, dont know the answer but sure would like to as I have the same. I remember the washer jets working when it was not so cold but of late there gets no melted ring around them nor do the mirrors get hot. So if anyone knows which fuses and such like to check that'd be great. Im guessing that the fuse mayb no 12, is that right?

An alternative (for those without) is to use neat or strong mix screenwash. Mine still work ok in -7c without heated jets.
