Heater not working
Hi guys not sure if I’m posting this in the right place?
I’ve got a 2013 d4 with no heating just blows cold
Pipes going to the matrix are cold as if it’s not circulating I’ve taken them both off and blown air through and that blows through fine I’ve checked thermostat although I think heater pipes connect before it anything else it could be?

Ok, do you have enough coolant? (Look at coolant level when cold, there is a level indicator in the expansion bottle)
Does your engine reach normal operating temperature? If yes, are you relying on hand feeling, the instrument panel or the actual values?
Do you have an IID or similar and can read live values? You can plot coolant and other temperature sensor values with it. Very handy.
From….. experience ( ) I can say that if the pipe towards the heater core is cold it means you either have too little coolant and/or an airlock somewhere and/or there might be an issue with the thermostat.
While it’s a bit early to suggest what it could be hopefully the advice above helps you.

Hi thank you so much for replying,
Yes I’ve got plenty of coolent, engine does reach temp
I’ve got a iid but have actually only looked at engine temp
I have taken thermostat out and checked it all seems to open fine
But arnt the heating pipes before the the thermostat?
There doesn’t seem to be any flow in the heating pipes
Does the fbh have anything to do with the system when not in use and the electric pump on the side of it?
I’ve also tried bleeding by opening both bleed screw but just water comes out not air

Either you're airlocked in the cooling system or the heater matrix is blocked with silt.
It can be very difficult to unblock them but results vary depending on how bad it is. Sometimes a small amount of air pressure through the expansion tank can push through if its airlocked. Make sure the tank is well above minimum and you opened the system at either the bleed on the crossover pipe, or the lower matrix pipe joint just above the EGR.
Only a small amount of air or you risk damage to the cooling system.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I did take pipes off that go to the matrix and blown it out so seems clean I can blow it with my mouth very easily

When you open (carefully) one of the two heater pipes above the EGR does coolant flow out with the engine running?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Pipes on the wrong way or a serious kink/collapsed pipe somewhere. If the pump is working there can be no other explanation for coolant not being pumped towards the matrix.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Ok Ive sorted it I’ve got a electric valve that wasn’t working bolts to the side of the fbh just above that electric pump which is strange as a lot don’t seem to have it not quite sure what it does but for now I’ve bypassed it and now have nice hot air inside
Thank you for all your help
Ps doesn’t anyone know what that valve does seems to have another pipe that goes down towards the thermostat

Maybe is the whole layout / routing like this?

And the valve like the one on the left?
