Yep. Auto is useless in the cold. My biggest gripe with the "working as designed" argument is that in Auto, no air (warm or otherwise) comes out of the middle seat vents. So, as far as LR's designers are concerned, in the cold weather, the bag seat passengers get no warmth in Auto. Really??

I still think GAP could probably do a program to alter how the stepper motors control the temp and be installed via IID tool.

Given the commentary about this, I have been trying to see what airflow and what temp this is coming out of the vents with using the manual settings. The first thing is that the temp of the air coming out of the footwell vents is cooler than that coming out of the face or screen vents (for any given temp setting on the drivers side dial). My feet are always cold even though quite hot air is coming out of the face vents. I was surprised to see how far to the right of the drivers footwell the air comes out, for some reason I expected it to be like every other (non disco) car I have had and to be closer to the tunnel side.

Also, what was a bit odd was that quite cool air seemed to be coming out of the small vent panel where you all say the temp sensor sits behind.

Just leave our MY11 D4 on auto for heating and aircon and after 7 years it has always been perfect - normally set at 21 degrees but can go up or down 1 or 2 degrees. In winter the cab is warm in a few minutes and in extreme heat it cools down quite rapidly as well! Absolutely no complaints. Thumbs Up

Just a quick post on this topic having suffered quite badly with the cold over the last few weeks.........I have pulled together some slides from the forum that I will print off and deliver recorded post to Landrover for the attention of Dr Ralf Speth. If no action following this, then it will be Autoexpress and after that Watchdog. If people are interested in supporting this at that level, then please let me know !

I can't seem to add the powerpoint, if anyone wants a copy please PM me you email address and I'll send it over.

I will be posting to Landrover this week......let's see where this take us.

Thanks - Paul

mines Censored in comparison to my 2011 and 2005 disco (got a 2016 now)

Asked them to check heating at service in feb said there were no outstanding campaigns i.e the tsb had been done and was working normally.

As others say has to be in manual all time to work with a normal effect

im sure it trys to get to clever with the solar sensor if you could eliminate this im sure it would be better thats my assumption from what ive read could be totally wrong! Laughing

Works as intended is still the likely outcome.
I think a temperature swing of +/- 3C shows a less than competent design. That's just what I had today. 19.7C to 24.9C today. No sun to upset sensors.
I have a 30 year old Honeywell room thermostat that does a significantly better job.
Not impressed.

Hi Guys,
Currently in contact with JLR following my letter / slides to Dr Speth........slow progress to date, another appointment to be made at the dealer - I have just responded stating that I would like to understand the diagnostic approach to be used as it clearly needs to be different than what has gone before.
Thanks - Paul

I don’t se LR releasing the design and test specifications for the climate control system. Just saying the system works as designed without offering up that documentation though is not helpful to anyone and proves nothing.

Only a set of controlled tests using calibrated measuring devices will show the CC pays only a passing relationship with the set temperature may get them to show the temperature tolerance is very wide or that it doesn’t meet their own specifications, or, it does work as well as we all believe it should.

I will try and get some data from a temperature logger I have over coming weeks.
