The nut is in 2 parts, a hardened steel outer, and mild steel inner.
The outer part cracks, and when under the stress of being undone, splits in 2. With the strong part of the nut gone, the mild steel part isn't strong enough to take the strain, and chews itself up.
The first time you are aware of any issues, is at the side of the road, at night, while changing a puncture. Bin them now My D3 Build Thread
