The problem with fixes like this is that it ‘might’ work, but it’s a hell of a lot of work to do just to find out!

If you cant use tab bearings i wonder if you could use loctite to bond the bearings in place?

My dad often tells me about how he fixed a spun bearing on a motorcycle using Araldite (Epoxy resin) back in the day Laughing I'm not sure myself.. who knows!

there is bearing loctite, but it is meant for roller bearings not for glasier bearing shells, never do that!

"back in the day"stories.. true maybe BUT
those were "roadside" repairs..... it maybe brings you home, if you do not rev higher than lets say 3500 rpm or does sell a motor because it lasts till the testdrive of a customer... (very bad practice but does happen) but it won't last...
 Best regards
Harold

doubt loctite would take the abuse TBH
I remember using 2mm brass pegs drilled right through the shell and into the main cap (not on a disco)
obviously a precision job as the peg would need to be interference fit to its hole and perfectly sized.

The issue is really why this happens in the first place. We have the effect here, rather than the route cause.

I quite often have to glue bearings in (as recommended by the manufacturers) using loctite they have a huge range of bonding strengths, temperature ranges ect .
im sure they could give advise on if there products are suitable.

So will you change the timing chains and tensioners or leave everything as is?

My timing belt is a lot newer, so that will be going accross, along with ALL the other stuff that's needed - which is quite a list (Motolab has a good detailed list on one of his threads)

Essentially - I will be taking the block and the heads. The one thing I won't need to do is bearings Smile for a very very good reason. They have already been done (around 10,000 miles ago).

I know I said I wasn't on a budget, but this now actually saves me a lot of money in bearings, gaskets and a few special tools.

At the end of all this - I may well break even!

I'll do a proper detailed write up when I get chance - but the car should be arriving this evening.

Sorry - just re-read that. Embarassed

chains - no, belt yes Smile unless i feel the need to have a look and find the tensioner is damaged... I plan to keep the heads as they are.

Don't bring over the timing belt as this will have stretched, unless you know exactly the tensioner position before you ripped it! Even then, it's a small cost item and not worth the risk of it snapping!!!
If the tensioners and idlers are recent they will be OK to reuse.

I'd advise new chains and tensioners as well as cam seals, but you will have to make up the rear sprocket tightening tool yourself if you want to be sure it's torqued safely and correctly. Thumbs Up

Good point - didn't realise the belt was that cheap! £30 Thumbs Up

As for the tightening tool - I dare say I'll ask about that when I get there.

I plan to get the engines side by side first (got an empty engine stand ready and waiting!)

I understand the basic advice, BUT.. how many genuine miles does this engine have on it’s clock?

Thing is, there is alway’s something you can do also, “While you Are there” BUT then again... where to stop.... .?

Let it depend genuine (traceable) mileage I would suggest...
