Help with Altox WBUS-5 GPS please

Hi,

Acquired a Altox WBUS-5 GPS off another forum member & I'm not struggling with the setup via the app.

I sent a factory reset command to the device. To start afresh.

So far i've installed it in the car using, Martins cable to pick up the telestart. Modified the CCF as required, & setup up a giffgaff sim which is active.

Now the problems start. When I try to add the device in the Altox app the first polling works & it confirm my submitted details, the number of the phone which the app is installed on (N1) & all the various APN details for giffgaff. It then starts a cycle of text messages it seems, although all i get is Giff Gaff telling me it's charged 10p a time yet, i see nothing displayed, Whilst it's doing this I retrieved the unit ID & submitted it in the app, It then askes me for the number position, i've tried, 1, N1 & Num1, each time it times out as an error. In the background it's still sending txt messages & has just burned through £15 quid of credit on the SIM.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, & can't find any obvious solutions online.

Anybody able to offer some assistance?

Thank You,
I've turned this off now as you suggested, although giffgaff said they were free. I'll stick another tenner on the card & try some more.

Update,
Turned off the balance SMS, which has stopped that & I presume no longer depleting credit. Reset again.

Added my mobile in +44 format to NUM1
Used the default GiffGaff EU setting in the app, not the UK one I was trying to add manually.
When asked for the value in NUM1 I entered the number on the device with the app installed as +44
Same with the sim card number +44
It's now connected to the app. I can get the app to turn the blowers on but not the FBH. I'm not sure why this is yet. I recall seeing other with a similar challenge so will have to look into it. Maybe it just because it hot today, does the 5deg rule still apply?

Making progress, thank you

yes think 5deg rule still exists - I think you have it working - try the tracker functionality too

I've had the Altox up & running in the car now for a few weeks & things have settled down. To be honest the car hasn't been off the drive in more than one or two occasions in that time.

It seems using a GiffGaff sim, it's cost around 0.08p a day or thereabouts. Does this seem about right? I only ask as the Sinotrack devices in our other vehicles are costing around 0.09p a month.

The car already has a tracker in it, so I only really need the FBH switching option.

Would I be better disabling the GPS/Nav & just using SMS to switch on the FBH when required? I'm not even sure if that can be achieved?

I did try the calling option, but when I rang the sim in the Altox, it gives the engaged tone & then disconnects?

Having the Altox & a tracker is also driving battery drain when it sits on the drive for a week at a time, so I want to try & reduce that as best I can.

Any thought or guidance you can share?

Updating my own thread here which might help others in the future.

To reduce the number of SMS messages the Altox generates I've set the following
Forwarding of incoming SMS to off (SMSF0)
Timer for sending SMS with balance to off (BTIMER1:0)
Timer for sending balance into application to off (BTIMER2:0)

If like me you just want to use the app for switching the FBH on & don't need the GPS tracking
Tracking can be switched off with the command (TRACKING0) I'm hoping this will reduce data & therefore running cost as indicated in the manual.

Finally, I've managed to get the "control via outgoing call to work" I was getting an engaged tone every time I called it. It appears contrary to my initial thoughts, using +44 for the UK doesn't work. I thought it was required in this format as the SMS command format is NUMX:+YYYY. However, I've changed it to NUM1:07860123321 as an example. Now the call is answered with a voice prompt.

Further knowledge to share....

Control via an outgoing Call
Enabled as CALL1
So the reason I was getting the line/busy engaged tone is because the device did not recognise the number calling it as the one it had been bonded too, therefore it drops the call as a security feature to prevent randoms from turning the heater on & off.

Geofence
Once the geofence has been set up in the places section of the web interface, it may not initially appear in the selected geozones box of the tasks setting. Log out & back in on the web interface & it should then appear & can be selected.

FBH activation temperature
Yesterday was the first time it has been cold enough or that I'd remembered to check if the heater was actually activating. Previously only the fan had activated as it was >19degC. Yesterday it was 18degC & the FBH kicked in so I presume if all the conditions are met, this is the threshold for FBH activation for timed climate rather than the 5degC which is to assist cold engine starts.

This might be stuff people already know, or maybe not. I thought it might be helpful to others if I place all the experiences I have had or learned from others in a single thread.
