Help - Cranckshaft snap?

Hi all.

I bought two weeks ago an Discovery 3 HSE MY2008 with supposely a broken cranckshaft.

The thing is, is there an "easy" way to diagnose if the cranckshaft is broken or not without removing the engine from the vehicle?
The engine starts and run perfect, no lights on dashboard and no errors in the ECU. The engine makes a "knock" sound and also there is a oil leak at the front, probably from the front cranckshaft seal.

Thanks for reading

If the engine runs perfect on 6 cylinders it hasn't got a snapped crank!
It could have a spun main bearing shell that is causing the knock. Check the oil filter, drain the oil and look for metal fragments.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thank you!

Yes, that's what I want to do...check the oil filter and oil and see if there's any debris or metal on it...
The first thing I'll do is remove the serpentine belt, start the engine and see if something changes, Who knows if I'm a lucky men and the knock sound comes from other part that is so easy to replace...?

One thing that maybe intereseting to you guys is that this engine was replaced by the official Dealer when the car has 167K kilometers on the odometer, and that was covered by the warranty. The car has now 465K, so the new engine last 300K kilometers, and I know the previous owner was tacking to much care of the car because the car was his "job tool". Once the car started to make the knocking sound the previous owner took the car to official dealer, and they told the cranckshat is snapped without removing any bolt...believe it or not...

On the other hand, if the engine has gone (bad engine block, conrods bent, etc..) I'm thinking to buy an engine from Peugeot 407 or Citroen C5. It doesn't sound the same ($$$) when you look to an engine from Jaguar vs Citroen....but I'm not sure if these engines will fit into the Discovery bacuse the engine block is not exactly the same. Any clues about that?

Regards

The French blocks have a different gearbox bolt pattern.

Ok, that's bad news...

So, when time arrives, if I need to swap the engine then I have to go to Jaguar or Land Rover...

Are the engines from S-Type Jaguar the ones I have to look? S-type seems to be a lot cheaper than XF or XJ...

One more question...

My car is EURO4 MY2008, and I found a 2004 jaguar engine that is euro3.

Will this engine be ok for the swap, or should I look to euro4 engines?
