Have they told you specifically why they are condemning your engine?
I can't see anything in what they have told you so far that would lead to that conclusion. It looks more like a failure in communication rather than a failed engine!
They're not giving you the detail, and without that it's impossible for you to make an informed decision.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Yeah they are essentially not willing to diagnose it any further , their justification is that because no codes based on what they have checked it hints at a mechanical issue internal to the engine. Any hints/tips on what to investigate next would be much appreicated, I can do basic things myself but have limited space for any deeper investigations. I'm thinking to do an oil change and remove the sump to check for metal fragments next. I've ordered a boroscope to get a peek into the engine internals too
Thanks for all your help so far

If they've cleared the fault codes very little will appear now until the engine cycles again. You could pull out the oil filter and cut it open to see if there's fragments in there.
With the aid of an assistant try using small sips of easy start to confirm or otherwise the integrity of the engine.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Just a quick help regarding the ‘poor Earth cable’ question earlier on.
My Earth cable had disintegrated between the chassis and body.
The symptoms were like having a flat battery. But no amount of ‘jumping’ or charging the battery helped. I’m sure there’s more stuff on here to search about it.
You can see if it you remove liner in the OS wheel arch (uk) and as soon as I touched the cable it crumbled. Bought a couple of cheapies off Amazon and it worked.
My other advice would be to see if another garage can take a look, as this seems way to quick to diagnose a new engine to me. I wouldn’t be happy.Disco 4 2012 HSE, Nara Bronze

Thanks I'll check the earth connection and easy start this weekend. I'm going to get it recovered to https://strathearnengineering.com/ for a second look
