Help: Fitting 13 pin tow bar electrics to my D4

Hi all

I like to think I'm reasonably competent, but today this has me stumped.

Fitting genuine LR 13 pin tow bar electrics VPLAT0136. All going ok, until I look at the instructions and this plastic part that holds all 3 grey multiplug connectors in place underneath the N/S rear light.

Where the Censored does it go ?

Anyone done this and can shed some light on it ? Hopefully it's completely straight forward.

cheers

I think that is the part that sits behind the rear bumper somewhere that most people do not bother fitting! I fitted the same kit to mine and have not used that part...

You need to remove the bumper to fit that bit. It screws to the back corner of the car just below the level of the top of the bumper.

so ignore it as quite a few of us have done - its just not needed. I wrapped some foam around the plugs on mine just so they didnt rattle against the plastic before pushing them down behind the bumper.

that's the instruction leaflet that came with it that I've been looking at. No mention of "removing bumper", so could not figure out where the hell it went. Thanks Thumbs Up

I'll find some wrapping foam, bubble wrap and wrap that round it with double sided tape to hold it up just under the light. As per the last suggestion.

As otherwise there is a chance, however small that it could drop down near the exhaust, which I'm sure would be less than ideal.

Fixing the wheel protector at the same time.

the cables arent long enough for it drop down by the exhaust, just tuck the plugs down behind the bumper once you have a bit of foam around them, no need to stick them to anything - job done

Spare Wheel Winch and Protector

ok, so towing electrics all done Thumbs Up and tested

Just one small thing that hasn't quite worked out today...

I have bought from this here site a full size 19" alloy wheel, which I thought I'd fit in place of the space saver wheel that the Disco came with.

But the winch bracket will not pass through the centrebore of the full size wheel, the spring will and 1/2 the bracket but not all of it, no matter how much I try to get it through.

On closer inspection the central hole in the space saver is much larger in diameter than the full size alloy.

Big Cry

Any one here figured out how to get past this ?? - as it was suggested to me that a full size spare would be a good thing, but not if it's a complete barsteward to get on / off the car, in the event of a puncture.

Thank god it's beer o'clock now.

Depending on the age of you D4 if it has the adblue tank then the spacesaver uses a different winch to the alloy
