I am sure all will be well, get the plate off and ALL will be clearer. The good thing is you STILL have whatever fluid it is coming out, meaning you aint ran out of it.
Decided to remove O/S front wheel as noticed this morning spots of oil/fluid down the lower quarter bodywork at wheel height along the total length of the D3 so possible issue on outer edge of the vehicle I thought. Wheel removed and all very clear where /what is causing the issue :
ignore the yellow/golden colouration of the unit as that is from the inspection lamp and camera flash !!. Fluid leaking from here and being thrown up into wheel arch and streamed outward down the bodywork. Could not readily find where the position of the leak is as fluid had coated the outer casing and joints.
So what has gone???
Aft of the issue fluid liberally on most things - forward of the issue bone dry:
Now as its not pouring out I am assuming safe to use but needs fixing pretty soon - opinions please folks.
As to getting it fixed whats involved and any ideas on cost. As I have for over a year been reporting to LR rough / lumpy transmission and have been sent away many times with "nothing wrong" and a pat on the head by dealers I am now feeling a bit short changed should this have been a developing problem that has been ignored/glossed over during the warranty period. Warranty now expired - maybe a LR Customer Service call tomorrow
I am guessing that if this has to go to the stealers for remedial its a cert that it will be confirmed as having nothing to do with my previous reports of a problem
If it is a genuine failure non related to past mutterings about the transmission on my part could the fitting of my 20" stormers caused this? - will this be a reason that the stealers will use to justify the problem? (Early notice that I may need a generous local forum member to loan me a set of 17's for a few days if I have to go to the stealers )
All comments/opinions greatly received soonest please

good luck with the investigation. Guess this is not much use coz I'm in manchester but I have a spare set of base wheels/tyres growing moldy in the garden which your welcome to if you need them for a few days!
Thanks for the offer - noted and could be back to you.

Its the driveshaft not the steering rack in the pictures - the leak is inboard of the rubber booted joint but where thereafter is the question

Looks like you have the well known (by LR) diff problem, caused by the coating on the inside of the diff breaking away and contaminating the oil, and ultimately damaging things including oil seals
