Help needed with disco 3 Humming noise when driving

Hi All
I was wandering if anyone could possibly help me.
Please don't think this is a plea for symphony !! But i have been diagnosed with Mental Cell Lymphoma (throat cancer) and while they carried out some scans it was discovered i also had lung cancer so had to have two thirds or my right lung removed.
Please i am not looking for symphony as i am over the worst now and i am fully aware it could all return but try not to think about it to much, The reason i have told you all this is because this is why i need help with my Discovery 3 as i am really, really not well enough to carry out any work on my car.
My brother has done a lot of work on the car for me but he is nearly 70 years old and it is getting to hard for him.
The problem i have is i really need someone in the Birmingham who could carry out some work on it for me.
I have been making enquiries my self but all the landrover people here are not very helpful the one place i contacted wanted £150. an hour to diagnose faults and then costs for repairing the fault or faults these sort of costs made me shudder what would they end up charging me and would they cure the fault ?
The fault with the car is there is a humming noise i can hear when i drive the car when it reaches about 10 miles p/h
My brother has changed the front diff for me and he changed the front short prop shaft he also changed the drivers side half shaft and drivers side wheel bearing and both front discs and pads were also changed but the noise is still there it has really baffled us we just cannot find what is causing the noise ?.
The MOT has now expired so i have had to sorn the car off road and as i have really been poorly for the last few months so can not seem to get any help ..
What i need is for someone that could recommend a trust worthy land rover mechanic who could come to my address in Chelmsley Wood Birmingham and listen to the fault and at least tell me what the problem is !!
And then if they could carry out the work for me and some other silly faults that show up when my diagnostic (Evo Lynks) is connected. And then get the car MOT'ed for me .
I am sorry for this long post but needed for people to understand why i can't do this work myself and please understand i do NOT expect all this work to be done for nothing i know it will cost me but just don't want to be ripped off.
I have had the car since January and only drove it for a few weeks and we could not find where the noise is coming from luckily i still had my Discovery 2 so i put that back on the road but would love to be able to use this Disco 3 .
I know i probably don't have long left maybe 2 or 3 years if i am lucky but i now have accepted that it would just be great to have this car running again please understand i know i have to pay and that is not a problem i just want the car fixed.
The Car is a 2007 TDV6 GS A it has 119000 on the clock it is a automatic transmission it really drives well apart from the humming noise.
Please any help would be very much appreciated just want to be able to use it again.
Thank you all Ron

You could try Jameson 4x4 in Summer Lane, (Snow Hill end) by Henrietta Street.
They are LR specialists and well versed with Disco's & Rangies. Have been going for years and nearly all ex LR Main Stealer mechanics. They have all the LR diagnostics and charge a fraction of the Dealers prices. I am sure they will give you an honest opinion for little or no cost.
Worth a phone call at least. Idea

I overlooked the SORN in your original post Embarassed

Whilst I sympthise with your situation, as the car is on a SORN, without a current MOT, Road Tax and possibly Insurance, it would not be prudent of any mechanic to take the car on a public road without Trade plates and insurance cover in order to diagnose any problems. The chance is that he could be caught by ANPR through either fixed or mobile cameras.
Personally, I would not take the chance.

You cant drive a car with no MOT on the road Trade plates only cover the tax and insurance side.

You can only legally drive a car with no MOT on the highway if you are driving to a pre booked MOT and have the appropriate insurance cover (most insurance policies do not cover this on a standard policy) and if the vehicle fails you are not supposed to drive it on the highway at all.

Really sorry to hear about your health mate, all the best with it.

Does the droning happen at all times?
ie. Only on acceleration, only when you lift off the gas, all the time?

If it is all the time, what are the tyres like?
Matching front and rear? Both tyre make and model?

So many times I have had people moaning about a droning/humming and it has been mismatched tyres front and rear of simply they are old or down to 3mm or so.

Hi mate

I had similar issues with mine and was told to change tyres
After a while of looking and thinking I eventually bit the bullet and put a full new set on
It shocked me at first but the droning/grumble went away (the grumble from the mrs got slightly worse when she say the invoice) and I drives a lot smoother as well

Hope this helps

Reading the posts on landyzone, it seems you put on different tyres on the front.

Are they the same as your rears?

I have seen so many posts over the years of a humming with 4x4s, all sorts of makes, that give droning with mixed tread patterns front and rear.

Not saying it is it, but if someone has a spare set of wheels you can try it would eliminate the tyres being the issue.

Humming noise

Hi
Sorry to hear about your health condition
I think
Some job must have been done around the fuel pipes,
If the pipes aren’t repositioned properly they will get in contact with the engine and transfer all the vibrations (humming noise) all around the car
Advise
If you touch the fuel pipes at the top/back of the engine with a screwdriver you will feel it
Speaking from personal experience
Hope this give you a hint
Good luck 😉
