Help needed to recognice what this is in the windshield
Hello everybody, have a -08 Discovery 3 that dosent get so much of use.
It has been now awhile parked and when using the car today both me and my wife noticed something in the windshield. Cannot be 100% sure that it hasent been there before but it would be odd that the eye would catch it just now for the first time.
As seen in the pictures it is taped to the windshield top left hand side, the cable goes in to the side paneling. Pulled the cable and it came out some and peered inside the paneling but it seemed that the cable went deeper down. Didnt really know how to remove the side panel so decided not to pull it out by force.
Is it something that all the Disco 3 have? Or is this something that has been implemented later? And if so what could it be?
Help in recognicion would be apreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Jukka

The marking to me looks like a letter y inside a cirlce.
What came across my mind was that it would be a tracking (GPS?) device antenna?

It is indeed very similar to the GPS tracking antennas that we have installed in fleet/company vehicles.
If this is the case, then there could be a discreet micro switch (panic button) installed around the drivers cockpit/ steering wheel and also a module installed somewhere in the car (engine bay possibly but on private vehicles it would be more discreet, such as behind a panel somewhere or behind a light). Sometimes there could also be an additonal remote switch on the key fob.
Alternatively, it could just be an antenna for the standard sat nav??2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey (UK)

To take the pillar trim off you carefully pull the 'airbag' cover off and undo the torx bolt under it.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Yes, they look very much alike. Only the "y" logo is missing. If it would be 2G/3G/4G mobile antenna what would they be used for?
For the mobile phone to strengthen the signal? For wifi in the car?

Almost certainly had a retrofit tracking device at some point, that would be the antenna to connect it back to the phone network.
