HELP! - one problem wheel lug nut!
Guys,
I need help and advice
Need to change front O/S tyre on my 2007 D3 but one of the 5 wheel nuts is posing a problem.
I have the alloy wheel nuts as per attached photo but this particular nut has been a bit rounded AND, the visible alloy part (as marked) turns with my fingers. It appears to be an alloy cap covering the hex nut itself. This is causing me no end of problems trying to get the nut itself undone.
I have tried separating the ‘cap’ part from the nut but I can’t get a grip on it or something behind it to pull it off and get to the wheel nut.
Has anyone had this issue and how did you solve it?
Mick

Dremel cut across the top of the nut, chisel or screwdriver to split the cap and prise apart and use 21mm socket to undo the nut (if you haven’t already rounded it off too much).
oh and replace stupid LR wheel nuts with solid ones I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

What a great suggestion @Nigethecat!
Brought out the Dremmel and got the offending cap off
I have a good fit on the nut with a 21mm socket so letting the penetrating oil do its stuff before attempting to loosen the the !
Thanks for the sound advice!👍👍

Hi,
don't forget now to check all your other nuts to see if you are suffering from swollen nuts
if you still have the locking wheel nuts fitted you may want to have a search and then decide about keeping them or not

Having recently had the same issue with both a nut and a loving wheel nut key splitting I recently replaced all of them as that was a pain.

I’d be keen to hear what recommendations you guys have a complete replacement set. Got rid of my locking nuts as nobody nicks alloys these days.
S good solid set that don’t give problems together with a link on where to purchase would be very much appreciated 👍Mick
